XK8 rad swap
Hey all,
I swapped the rad in my 1998 XK8 due to a crack in the housing near the upper hose connection.
Here are a few things you may find interesting.
Price: quote on new rad from Canadian supplier (as sourced by my buddy who owns a Napa parts store) $1200.00CDN over $700.00 his cost. I got a perfect match Hella Behr on Amazon for $320.00US. Shipped to Ship Happens south of Sumas border crossing in BC for free. $48.00CDN duty. All in just under $500.00CDN.
RE/RE: JTIS says disconnect the A/C system to remove the A/C rad. Not necessary. Just two bolts hold the bracket on right side. Tricky to get out and in but worth it so you don't have to refill the refrigerant. I cut the bracket to make the install easier.
Fit perfect and I used tube type foam insulation to replace the worn out support pieces (cut in strips). Damn, I should have taken pictures.
Aftermath: No issues or leaks, just the normal burping and refilling the coolant until it settled in.
Did the job in one day with no special tools. Just patience mostly.
The more I work the more I love it!
Any questions just PM me and I will do my best to accommodate.
All the best
