Default XK8 Speaker replacement

I did search first but couldn't seem to find the answer. ON my 97 XK8 the left dash speaker is blown. It just kind of rattles. I am guessing it's a nightmare to replace but I thought I would ask anyway. Can't afford to have the dealer replace it.

take out the little grill, you'll see the speaker and cut the wire. put some tape around the wire, and put the grill back.

cheapest solution

That was my question. It didn't look to me like the grill popped off. I would just as soon put new speakers in there if I can.

The grille and speaker can be easily pried up with a putty knife.

You can get a used speaker at Coventry West.

Are the speakers in the dash considered tweeters or midrange and in the door full range. I don't have the premium system but I think it's subs in the back. Can someone clear that up for me. Also aren't there aftermarket speakers I could get rather than buying used.

The 97 Standard Sound (as shipped from the factory) uses four "Full Range" Speakers in the Doors and Rear Quarter Panels.

The Dash Mid Range and Door Tweeters were not supplied.

Over the years there were Many changes in the configuration of Speakers in the Standard and Premium Systems.

I just send blown speakers(theyre not blown just the foam deteriates around the cone They buzz and rattle, and can be repaired) to allens speaker repair here in houston for speaker reconing. $40 good as new and dont have to worry about fitment of something else or buying a used speaker that may do the same thing tommorrow. Google speaker reconing in you city. Most large cities have people that do it

My hearing has really gone down hill. I was sure the rattling was coming from the dash but I just went out again and checked and it is from the door. Hell getting old. Saw the video on removal of door panel and that's looks easy enough.

Actually I played Bass in a rock band during high school. I have real bad ringing in my ears. Lots of times I can hear things on the tv but don't know what they are saying. May be time for a hearing aid.

All the speakers in my '97 disintegrated so I replaced them with cheap Pyle audio speakers. The front ones came with crossovers, which I double sided taped inside the door, and tweeters that I mounted in the little triangular foam pieces in the corner of the door. I had to take the tweeters apart by removing the driver from the plastic mount, and it fit perfectly in the holder that's already there. Do a search on " Pyle PLG6C "
I used 4-way 6x9 ovals in the rear, but had to cut out the mounting plates to make them fit. They sounded great and I wasn't afraid to crank them when driving with the top down.

Default jag speakers

I am struggling with the alpine audio speakers in my 2000 xkr and found a shop is san Diego Sea level Auto Electronics 619 548 2641 that has some rebuilt factory speakers and offers friendly advice. After hunting down the speakers my auto shop refused to put them in so I Am looking for a shop in Miami for the instillation

Hey David, tried to send you a private message here but says you can't or have chosen not to receive them. It's about speakers. You can write me directly at Palmbeacher1@gmail.com

I replaced both rear speakers on my 2000 XKR convertible today and it was really much easier than I feared, The whole job took about two hours following the instructions from jag repair.com.
Dealer quoted $450.00 for labor only. They indicated hat did not show a replacement part number for the speakers, but I found some rebuilt from sealevel@san.rr.com This made instillation as easy as the came with the same instillation ring.
They also have dash radio adapter plates for older XJ's

Hey Miami guys....

I acquired a 2000 xk8 Conv last month. Just did a transmission replacement and some other service (with Rick at Gables Cats - expensive though good work...).

Seems all of my mid range speakers were blown except the driver side door, and now that one went too! Any help as to a shop or replacement speakers for my Jag? I remember a link somewhere here as to a website Site that matched up the oem speakers with certain Rockford Fosgate, but now I can't find the thread with the link?

Furthermore it would be nice to meet some local Jag enthusiasts....

*****, check out the regional section of the forum, better chance at finding some neighbors with other jags. As for the speakers, there's a ton of threads, try a few searches in the xk8-xkr subforum, you'll find many options for replacement.
