Welcome to the forum! Prior to the XK8, Jaguar had only produced three basic engine designs, two 6 cylinders and a 12 cylinder. That made it a pretty big deal when they came out with an all new 8 cylinder engine.

Actually Jaguar had a 2.5 liter V8 in 1960 when it purchased Daimler (the Daimler Dart) and promptly killed production so as not to compete with the 'E'Type. It took 30 some odd years to have another V8.

As of 2007 the model name was changed to XK. If you are looking at an XK8, you are looking at a 2006 or earlier year car.

Back in the 1980s I worked on a Daimler Dart. Living here in the US it's hard to figure out the reason for a V8 that displaces 2.5 liters (there are 4 cylinder engines that displace 2.5). I didn't care for the look of the car. They are scarce and I have not seen or worked on one since.
