Default XK8 sport mode button issues?

I took my sport mode button out to see why the light wasn't working and i guess the bulb is bad but you can't just replace bulb since it's soldered onto board.I being the risk taker that i am thought i would try and solder another same type bulb in the old bulbs place(NOT RECOMENDED)anyway i gave up on that and just put it all back and now when i plug the sport button up my parking lights turn on,,,,so i just left it unhooked and i'm going to have to find a replacement but now if i put my lights on and turn my key on in the second position all the dash lights cut off but they work when i have my parking lights on key not on or .Basicly everything works right until i turn key into second position, when i replace my sport button will my dash light work?

I have a replacement Sport Mode switch which was on my 2000 XK8. It is missing the cover but yours will pop off the switch you already have and you can pop it on this "new" one. The bulb works.

Send me a PM if you ar einterested.

I have wondered what to do if/when the little light in the button burns out. Are you saying that this cannot be replaced and that you need to buy an entire new switch?

Sorry about the double post. Anyway i tried to remove bulb but it's soldered onto electrical board,i guess you would have to replace the whole thing. They should have at least used an led bulb.I also tried to solder another bulb in its place but the bulb would not light up unless i used the ground side of another spot next to the original one,i could not find a connection spot that allowed the bulb to work as the original one did just in conjunction with the little red light that lets you know sport mode is on.I also think that what i did damaged the switch as you have to be careful not to over heat the board since other items can become affected,i think it's possible to re solder another bulb on the board but not really my cup of tea.I take a lot of risks when working on my own stuff, you win some you lose some.

electricity in this car is weird! It can go anywhere if something is not working right. So, re-soldered bulb and a new fuse worked great? Or, did you have to put the old bulb back on?

Just when I thought it was safe to buy another British car (I am a recovering TR7 owner), I found a part with the Lucas name on it, beneath the wood trim by the shifter. I was consoled by the fact that I also found a Ford part nearby. Perhaps the positive/negative energy of these parts keeps Lucas from wreaking havoc on yet another generation of British cars....?

But in the event you have problems with your Sport switch, just unplug it till you get a new one. The car will drive as if the sport switch never existed. As I was in the middle of a stereo upgrade, I had to do this the other day and had no problems.

With the new bulb soldered in place of the old bulb nothing happened so i played with some of the other connections and was able to get light working but not how it should so i just left the bulb off.The only thing that replacing fuse did was fix the issue i had with the dash lights not workking with key on.I think the soldering caused the problems with the sport button(over heated board) maybe a cold solder is the way to go.So no new or old bulb and no sport button as i damaged it due to the soldering...

Yes I also did this when installing a bluetooth unit in my XKR.
Without the sport switch connected at all, it felt to me like the car was actually in sport mode.
