Question XK8 "static noise"

My XK8 developed a "radio type static" noise. Heard while engine off, but ignition on & in dash blower motor automatically running. All switchable electronics are off. This noise only occurs when ignition on but nothing else is running & is audible when driving
Must I replace entire blower unit or can I replace the electric motor servo, resistor, or just the motor to solve tyhe noise issue.?

Is this a regular and constant interference or does it increase and decrease?

The servos operate the air direction/distribution flaps and only operate on demand. The blower motor speeds vary with temperature setting. There's also the heater pump to consider.

All can be replaced individually but throwing parts at it could be an expensive way to troubleshoot.

Graham,
Isn't this the infamous passenger compartment sampling motor on which there are many posts including this one

Does it stop if you turn off the climate system completely?

Steve,

Isn't that more like generator 'hum' than 'static clicking'?

( we'll be back round to Kirkegaard at this rate )

Graham,
I assumed what the OP was describing was 'white noise' which could fit with the little fan.
What we need is something like the RSPB bird song library of all the noises a Jaguar can make.
Bags I recording the one involving a YL - but I don't think Kierkegaard would approve !!

Thank you to all who replied! The static noise stopped the next day ... then the following day I hear a click & the entire dash vibrated with a rumbling sound ... kinda like when I was a kid I'd put a playing card, clipped to the frame of my bike & stuck into the path of the wheel spokes. Immediately drove to Jag. dealer, & for $110. they found a piece of foam stuck on the vanes of the fan. No more noise.... worth the $$$ to me. The cheapest Jag repair I'll probably ever have by a dealer! ;-)

Grahm: Thank you for your response - turned out to be a piece of insulating foam that broke off & got stuck in the vanes of the squirrel cage fan mechanism - a post warranty item caused by the factory & initial build I suspect. Cheapest Jag. dealer fix ever for me, only $110., but worth it to me.

Result.

That's an amazing cost. Pay it and run before they check the bill again!
