Greetings all! I bought a 1999 XK8 this weekend. The car is in very good shape, but has 101,000 miles on it. I drove it 200 miles all around town. Today I pulled the drivers window/mirror switch to fix a sticky mirror selector rocker. When I put it all back together, the car would not shift from park. The tilt switch now works only in the memory mode. Two unreleted issues?? I have played with the emergency brake, checked the brake light fuse and tried the rocking method with no luck. The foot
brake safety switch is physically moving with the brake pedal, but I don't know if is sound electronically. I am way in the country and would like to get the XK to roll./ Any suggestions or advise??

More on stuck in park. The drivers side fuse panel, third slot from bottom on right side, 15 amp fuse is blown and continues to blow, coulkd be part of the problem?? Not sure what this fuse does.

Yes, fuse 16 is most certainly the problem. At the top of the XK8/R forum there is a FAQ sticky where you will find the fuse charts for the car. It lists all the things connected to the fuse, several associated with the shift control. Also one associated with mirrors.

 

I will look, the mirrow switch was very coeroded and is defective. My messing with the switch may have caused the problem. Hopefully there is a fix to get me down the road. I love the machine, it will be a joy after this small headache.

 

My issue is apexed at fuse 16. It blows all fuses. It works the tilt and the brake switch release. I am at a lose on this. To removew the brake release switch is a headache, but if someone out there knows if replaceing that will do the trick, I will. Thanks for your time looking at this.
