XK8 timing chain help required
Hi I have a a 4.0 XK8 with broken secondary chain.
The exhaust valves are all ok and I have good compression. I have a new chain (and new tensioners -all genuine parts).
i have fitted the tensioner on the RH bank no problem.
My question is, can i fit a new chain to the LH bank without removing the primary chain/front cover?
I have tried removing bearing caps on the inlet cam to try sliding the chain in underneath the camshaft, but the VVT mechanism is holding it fast and the bolts can't be removed without first removing the cover.
Can this be done in situ without using a split chain (which don't seem reliable anyway)?
i know everybody will say "just do the lot" but i just want to do the top chain for now if I can.

One way is with a chain repair link which is frowned upon but I am sure has been done many times.
Another way is to remove the cams and install the new chain from the rear.
