To your recall, how close is a 1999 XK8 4.0 verse a 2000 XJ8 engine. Spec wise of mechanical build. I understand they are identical in assembly. Is that right? Rich

 

The engines are BOTH AJ27 and will interchange without modification.

Thank you Motorcar, I purchased a 99 XK8 in 8 mths ago. Was told by 3rd parties the engine was changed. Thought to be low 20k mile engine. Could not get good detail. Did notice a chalk mark " 00 XJ8" on the damper. I assume from a slavage yard. Did read the engine build on the engine to be August of 1999. Seem like the 2000 year fits. Either engine is fine by me. I am going to have the chains replaced to insure they are ok. Need to inform the tech with as much info as I can. Thank you for your help. Rich
