Default XK8 vs XKR upgrades

I don't have an XK yet but am shopping for one. Are the tensioner/water pump/thermo housing upgrades anymore difficult with the XKR's supercharger or is it the same? I will be doing the work myself.

How about the full timing chain/guide package? Same or more difficult?

Welcome to the forum FI Spyder,

You'll find plenty of information on the two regular issues of tensioners and cooling system in the FAQ's at the top of this section. Here's the link:

As you are asking about these issues, you must be searching for an early XKR?

Graham

Yes I'm looking for an pre 2000 (low price) where if I can get the price down by doing the upgrades myself (if not done). I've seen some of the pictures of the secondary tensioner upgrades (XK8) but am concerned if the XBR'S supercharger complicates the procedure. Does it complicate the water pump replacement. I haven't had a chance yet to peruse the repair manual if that will tell me.

XKR is easier IMO, the only more complicated thing is changing the valley pipes as the supercharger has to come out, but on the XK8 you still have the manifold.

What you are calling upgrades I would call regular maintenance, but to upgrade the power you have to go supercharged as the XK8 is nigh on impossible without big money being spent to squeeze out extra BHP

Thanks for the info. That's what I'm looking for. Not worried too much about power, if I fall into an XKR deal I would take it. More concerned about condition/mileage/price also secondarily color/interior as a factor as that's what you have to live with day in day out.
