Default XK8 window drops fully SOLVED

I have a 97 XK8 and when I pull the door handle (interior or exterior) the window fully drops.
The standard reset by holding window switch down to click and then up to click does not work.
New battery.
Unplugged battery for two hours and no change.
Any suggestions?

I also have a '97 doing the same thing on the drivers side.
Reprograming an hard resets do nothing to solve the problem.
Any ideas?

Default any sugestions?

This post has been on for 6 months with 480 views and no answers.
Does anyone have an idea or suggestion?

Battery is fully charged
Window has been reset
Latch has been cleaned and lubricated

Still same result, window drops completely at touch of inside or outside latch.
Only happens on drivers side.

Any help would be appreciated

Perhaps a door module as written above since hard resets and new battery is not fixing the issue.
Only thing is that you both have in common is you drive a 97 with NOTORIOUS main computer issues, wild card chance it is causing the issue.

I am sorry you haven't had any responses, but I will try to give you some ideas.

1. go to the following web site and download the electrical manual for the appropriate year. Gus a member has assemble a great site. JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

2. I think your problem may be in the Door Control Module. The action occurs with the door handles so I don't think your window switch pack on the door is the cause.

3. In order to eliminate or prove the module is the problem you will need to transfer the problem. This means removing the door cards on both the drivers door and the passenger door. remove the door control modules and swap them. If the passenger door now causes the fault you can be positive it is the door module.

4. if it is the door module you can find used ones fairly easily one ebay or at salvage yards.

5. The door modules should be identical in function. Verify using the VCATS sticker in the spare tire wheel well that they only have one part number.

If that doesn't solve the problem let me know and i will review the door micor-switches and try to determine if one of them can cause the problem.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Default Solved Window Drop

Avern1 and BRJAG

Thank you for chiming in. This is one subject that does not seem to be covered in the Forum.

I was just a couple of steps ahead of you both.

I removed both door modules and will swap them.

Drivers side now works flawlessly so the module is the problem.

I reinstalled on passenger side and the error reoccurs.

Replaced module.

I guess we can mark this one SOLVED

This subject has been covered many times, it is just out there in threads that if not subject titled are hard to find.
When ever I have an issue I try to put it in my thread title clearly so it is searchable for others down the road.

That's an important point. Often I will pass over a thread with a non specific title like 'can some one help me' if I don't have a lot of time to spare.

Agreed it is frustrating. As is looking for it in 2-300 thread reply posts.

I try to clarify the issues when picking up some of theese old posts by adding a title and closing them with a Solved note when done.
I hate reading posts where someone has received help or suggestions and they don't come back and tell us what the result of the suggested fixes was.

Normally y research the heck out of a subject before asking for help.
I remenbered reading about it, but could not find it as a single issue thread.
Glad this helps.

Juan

Amen.

(of course now someone will find a post by me where I didn't follow-up with the result.)

Yes.
It turned out I had to replace the door module to get the window to work.
Got one from ebay.
Works fine now.
Opened up the removed one but could not find any burnt components.
I was hoping there was another fix but did not find one.

Hi,
I know your msgs are 5 years old, but I notice the door modules on Ebay say they are programmable. Was that an issue with yours?
