You would need to call around to local locksmiths and ask if they can cut and program a Jaguar tibby key. You can buy keys on Ebay and other online sources but cutting them and them programing the RF chip to the security module is the kicker.

I couldn't find a way to avoid the dealer, so I took my newly acquired treasure to the jag dealer (75 miles away) and asked them to do a complete inspection so I'd know its precise condition and what maintenance it might be needing soon (carte blanche, eh?). They charge $125 for that, but they apply it to any work done, so it was absorbed in the cost of the key.

Turned out they found absolutely nothing needed but the brake switch and turn signal stem that I had already diagnosed through this amazing forum. BTW, they wanted $640 parts and $480 labor to replace the turn signal stem, but I found one for $35 on eBay and a very competent local mechanic is installing it today for $98.

I bought a pair of Tibbe keys cut to code from Autoguy-uk on EBay.co.uk for £41-70 Sterling, they we cut and posted the same day as the order was sent. I have not had them programmed yet I will look into that soon and post the results.

I had a spare cut from a blank on eBay when I got my 2000 XJR, and I recall it worked fine without programming. It was just a key.

Are you sure that the 2000 (or my 2002) needs a chip or programming?
