Unhappy XKR problems with electrical after jumping

Hi I have a 2002 XKR I'm having problems with my car after finding it dead I haven't started it over 2 weeks and freezing temps. I jumped it from another vehicle it started up but most electrical didn't work. I put a new battery in it started right up some electrical problems were fixed but main clusters don't light up and I can't get it out of park. I was thinking of replacing Body control module next. I've been searching the forum for an answer.

Don't just start throwing parts at it.

Get an inexpensive OBDII reader and read the codes. Then clear the codes, run the car and read them again.

Besides not lighting up, are the instrument cluster gauges working? Are there any fault messages on the display? The instrument cluster is the hub of all communication in the vehicle networks so it's behavior can be a clue. There have also been cases reported of it getting damaged during jump starting.

PS: Next time please post in the 1996-2006 XK8/R forum...this one is for the later models.

Welcome to our forum! I'm sure you will get some good answers, but your best bet is to post in the forum dedicated to your year of car. This forum is for 2006 and newer models...

I know it sounds simple but have you tried putting your foot on the brake to get it out of park?

Yes I have and for anyone that doesn't know on the shifter plate there is a spot you can put a screw driver in to get it out of park, but as soon as I turn off the car same problem occurs again.

two points to consider:

1) new batteries are often not at full charge. you should do a full charge on the bench.

2) do a reset. the battery change may have been fast enough that a reset did not occur

I did wait a day from removing old battery to put the new one in. The new battery was out of my 57 T bird that I just got as a Christmas present I did try a hard reset but I didn't check the new battery to see if had a full charge. Thanks I'll try this too.

Jags are voltage sensitive a new battery from another car may not have the cranking power to start your Jag correctly. If the voltage drops below 12 while cranking you will get error lights and messages of all types. Jag batteries are longer than most batteries. It may work fine in the summer but winter you'll have a problem.
