Cool Staggered Tires

Diddon

All good questions, i had to check.
Fronts are Michelin Pilot Sport 255/35
Rears are Michelin Pilot Sport 285/30

Spare wheel is 20" x 9.5". Maybe they put 9.5" all around? Will check it when i replace the tires. Center caps are 2 3/4" so OEM wheel caps (2 1/4") are too small.

Angry Wheels & Tires

Good questions, i had to check:

Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport:
Fronts are 255/35 x 20
Rears are 285/30 x 20

The extra wheel is 20 x 9.5" which suggests the wheels all around may be 9.5" rather than the 9/10 front/rear spec. I will verify when i get next set of tires.

Center caps are 2 3/4". Jaguar OEM Center Caps are smaller.

Thankfully, there are no speed bumps between here and Mt. Laguna.

So is the spare tyre 255? I can't speak for the safety or legal aspects of having different widths on the same axle, although one might infer that it is ok because narrow spacesaver wheels are ok. If the spare is wider than 255 it might, perhaps, lead to a binding issue at extreme steering lock, so definitely worth checking.

Default Spares

The extra wheel came without a tire mounted on it and is currently sitting in the garage. The car has the original space saver spare in the trunk. For now the extra wheel serves no purpose, but it may have a future as a coffee table base in the garage which is the one room in the house that i am free to decorate without supervision.

Remember another driving factor for the spare on these cars: you need to be able to clear the big brakes if there is a flat on the front. I was informed in another post that there are "space saver" spares specifically designed for the XKR brakes as well as the more common XK8 spare. I have also seen pictures of full size spares (suitable for an XKR) like the Jaguar Hydra 18". You might want to double check your spare to make sure.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Question Case of the missing Montreals/Detroits

I'm sure you've figured this out by now JRabbit....The XKR Coupe came with BBS Montreal's or Detroit 20" Wheels and they are staggered at 9"Front/10"Rear and there is an Orange spare that fits either Front or Back...Someone has stolen or sold the original BBS wheels that came on your XKR and when the Owner found out how much they cost to replace....He bought the chrome ones that are on your car as replacements!

Default Missing Wheels

If anyone has the 20" BBS Wheels which may have been stolen from my 2006 XKR Coupe sometime while it was in Texas, please return them to me. No embarrassing questions will be asked. Small reward offered depending on condition.

I'll post this reward sign on a Telephone pole on Highway 6 somewhere up around College Station.....It was probably some Aggie that did it!

Billy, an Aggie would be the one to steal them back for you.

Default "Aggies"

Aggies is a term which is affectionately used by the UT Longhorns and others to describe the faculty, students and alumni of the Texas A&M University. Aggies date back to days when the university was known as the Agriculture and Mechanics College of Texas. If you are movie fan, look for The Junction Boys which centers around football (pointy kind) camp run by Bear Bryant, played by Tom Berringer, when he was Aggies head coach.

To be fair, my car spent most of its time (per CarFax) west of the Austin/San Antonio metro area, so Billy Clyde probably should put some flyers up at the UT campuses as well. As a Gamecock alumni (google that at your own peril), I will not presume to make any snarky comments about the reading levels of students at either of the fine universities.

*sigh*

one day, when I have a climate controlled garage, I will pull the trigger on a black coupe. They are just so amazing when all polished up!

Im personally not a fan of the Recaro seat shape. They remind me of that Conehead skit from SNL! random, I know, but I can't get it out of my brain when I see Recaros! haha

You should take your cat to the BIG car show at the Outlets in San Clemente. It's every Saturday from 7-9am. hundreds of cars. from hand-crankers to cars worth over a million. Lots of camera crews. They fawned over my coupe, and I am sure the other Jaguar owners would love to see yours.

Cool There you go JRabbit a great invitation!!

Now you've done it! The invitation of a lifetime....Isn't there a song something about "Meet me in San Clemente"?

There is nothing like a shiny Black Coupe, all polished up and ready to go to a Car Show! Yawl have fun down there.....and JR....I heard that there is a full set of Detroit's on sale in Arlington.....

Enjoy! Billy Clyde

Default Sabbatical is over.

I vowed to take rest of month off from computer, but hey it must be October somewhere in J-World.

Coneheads? Yes, the Ricarros look like something you could pick off the shelf in an office depot, but they do grab firmly to the base of your snarglies while you are consuming mass quantities of twisty mountain roads at nearly legal velocities.

My self-imposed digital exile prevented me from seeing the notice regarding a regular Saturday morning car meet at the San Clemente Outlet Mall. I will definitely put it on the calendar for next month. Have to get up early to get to San Clemente by 9. Instead, I drove to Idylwild for the Jagsextravaganza concours sanctioned by the Inland Empire Chapter of NA Jags club. Seemed like a good excuse to drive 230 miles up and back through the SoCal mountains on a beautiful Fall day. There were several 1950's fixed head and drop top XKs, two XKEs coupes from mid-60's, and many more late model Jags. I parked next to a perfectly detailed black 2004 XKR coupe which made the road dust on mine all the more obvious. Check out the Inland Empire's site later this week to see if they posted pictures. My cell phone could not do justice to the cars.

I had to stop at a few wineries on the way home to pick up supplies so the camera work on the way down was shaky. I am posting some pictures i took of landmarks along the way. Some of the best views did not have safe places to pull over so you will have to drive it yourself to gain the full effect--Idylwild to Jullian to San Diego, all on two lane twisty mountain and farm roads. worth it even if you have to rent a Mustang from airport.

Trouble is, on roads like that, you have to stop the Jag every, what, 10 minutes or so to remove the squashed insects, get rid of a fine layer of dust, polish up the paintwork and perhaps detail the odd panel or to, then admire and perhaps take a photo or two. This does add substantally to the journey time. And some forum members (I'm not one of them) might feel it wise to have a personal breakdown truck tagging along behind, with each stop adding to their fee.

wait, you have TWO xkr's? jealous!
the cars and coffee at the outlets will meet this coming Saturday from 7am to 9am. then it changes to 9-11am due to noise complaints from the neighbor's. the Lamborghini crew always drifts and stuff, so the outlets are concerned with safety as well.

let's try and meet up sometime there.
