I found this post showing a strip down of a ZF-5HP24 tranny, this one in a Range Rover but the same box as the XK.
In the post that led me to this one the OP describes the strip as trivial.
You can draw your own conclusions.

Hey thats a great link. Great pictures with a sort of step by step. I would say combined with the manual you could tackle it if you were half ways mechanical. Now getting it out of the car..... I have removed a couple over the years and just replaced. Never took one apart. I have 80000 miles on my xk8 and with the track record of the a or b drum there may be a time when out of the car it comes. On a different track does anyone know where to download the manual for this transmission. I have looked but cannot find.

Interesting link, I don't think I would tackle that myself but I like to see the photos. I think Test Point was responding to the other fellow's inquiry about a manual.
