2.7 Tdvi - Change of Engine Oil Specification
Having just downloaded the latest additions to JagDocs documents I note that whereas the 2009 Vehicle Specs document listed engine oil meeting WSS-M2C-913-B for the 2.7 Diesel XJ, 2003 to 2010 MY,
....
now the 2012 Vehicle Specs document lists WSS-M2C-934-B for the 2.7 Diesel XJ (2003-10) with DPF (ie an ACEA C1 oil)
and WSS-M2C-913-B for diesel XJs without DPF.
So that means:
Castrol EDGE Professional C1 5W-30
Shell Helix Diesel Ultra AF-L 5W-30
Mobil Super 3000 Formula C1 5W-30
etc etc
ie more expensive, but worth it if you want to get the best life out of your DPF (which are around $3,000 new).

I've just checked the book (2012 Specs) for the S-Type and ...
with DPF... 934-B
without DPF ... 913-B or C
The 2009 Spec just says 913-B; no mention of 934.
Have Jag Agents caught up ? Well I had my XJ serviced last month by a Jag agent and I've just checked the invoice and it says "Helix HX7 AF" and the Shell spec says that's 913-B; I think I might go and have a word with them. The 2012 Spec is Aug '12 !
Land Rover seem to have sorted out the specs for their 2.7, with and without DPF, at least a year ago.
I think there was a problem with availability of C1 oils when the XF came out; people with diesels complained they couldn't get any for top-up, and were advised to use 913; I think dealers even used it for oil changes.
You would have thought there would be a Special Service Message about it.
Ho hum.
