Default S-type R Performance Questions

Hi everyone,
Im choosing a Jag this summer to liven up my garage with, and I plan to race her. Unfortunately, it seems that outside of the cars far-away motherland it is almost impossible to find qualified enthusiast clubs or racing shops who know anything about a model newer than 1989.
Im buying a late model S-Type R and my European car mechanic tells me he wont touch it; partly out of respect for the poor vehicles original configuration and the other part his lack of knowledge for how it works. So, back to the drawing board (where I will draw my own drawing board, since they are not available for this model).
I need to find people who know where to find people who know how to modify the computer - yes, i said modify the computer... and can help me make changes to the injection mapping so that I can properly tune the engine either with an AFC or whatever others have tried that works.
I seem to be running into a brick wall with other racing forums when it comes to Jaguars, and I am tired of all the advice I get from people who believe that colorful stickers and giant flashy rear mounted whale tails will provide their imported mosquito with more traction to the front wheels.
So far I have only found one company, "Mina", which sells specifically Jaguar performance parts, but their inventory is limited to merely pulleys, intakes, new mufflers which attach to the factory exhaust system, and - you guessed it - stickers.
Has anyone had any success increasing performance under the hood of these cars? I really have my mind set on 600 horses. Any advice I can get will be better than chocolate covered strawberries.

"Search" "Search forums" "Search this forum"

Not to be rude but there have been plenty of threads recently with exactly what you're looking for.

I don't mean to sound repetitive because I actually know the basic stock swap-outs for this car, im looking for the actual parts and people with more technical advice. It seems like most know the drill - pulleys/intake/p.p.blower/p.p.injectionrails/p.p.heads/chiptune
I am working on a complete dual exhaust and looking for some hedders with proven results

Since you started this thread in the new member area, welcome marciano.

I'm going to move you over to the s-type section, as steve pointed out, there's been alot of talk lately about doing mods to the s-type R, including dabbling in computer mapping, etc. Several guys can fill you in and maybe with some additional brain power, some progress can be made.

Enjoy!

Nice. There's a couple of us guys in CA. If we can find someone local that can do a tune, maybe we can get a group buy.

haha! With how hard it is to get tunes/find a tuner on these cars, that's local enough to me! Heck, I'd drive anywhere on the west coast to get a tune. Most of the options are back east.

Iluvmy05STR thanks for the link! By the way I found a shop in NJ that tunes STR transmissions.

I will definitely be interested in hooking up with a group, at least to meet other STR owners if not to save some dough! Ive got some pretty cool plans for my car

What shop are you going to get your car tuned at? Let us know the results. My car is currently down getting blower upgrades (ported blower and increased step up ratio internally for more boost). A tune would be awesome way to complete this project.

I haven't investigated the options, but I think if we all put our heads together we can find the best one to work with. I'll be letting everyone know what I come up with.

Wow.. Level 10 they have been around a long time..
They did my trans back in 92 on a GM 5 Speed. They did an incredible job!

Curious to see what they can do for these ZFs
