Dropped the chrome trim around the front and rear windscreen after 04. In 06 dropped the body side molding and changed the side repeater.

The tire pressure monitor and the triple glass are all federal mandates that will be required on ALL vehicles sold in the U.S. Jaguar was just staying ahead of the game and testing the waters with the flagship. Other than that most differences are cosmetic.

The triple laminate glass was touted as a noise reduction thing.
I think I read that on
www.edmunds.com
they have all the models reviews and options, etc for the different years.
I think the side molding (door bang strip) was dropped at the end of th 05 model year.
Ive seen comments about the amount of parking lot rash it saved as the doors have alot of surface area that shows dings and scratches quickly.

Can someone outline the changes to the performance brakes starting with the 04 XJR? I know the original R's had Brembo's. Then another system labeled "Jaguar", which is on my 06 Super V8. Anything since? I've read that the non-Brembo performance brakes are better. Not painted that pretty red color though. [sm=boohoo.gif]I guess that's not all that important.

So with the XJR, are there any additional concerns of reliability over the standard XJ8? Does the supercharger have any faults/failures? Does the added strain of the SC place the engine in more of a position for reliability problems? Same goes for the transmission?

I appreciate any input.

Aside from the Brembo to Jaguar moniker. Brake discs actually went from 365mm to 355mm.

Not sure of all the changes to the engine, but there are at least some changes in the SC engine compared to the normally aspirated. An 04 tech guide (may have been changes since then, of course) I have says this about the engine:

"For improved robustness and to withstand mechanical andthermal stresses, the supercharged pistons are manufactured of forged aluminum with a two-piece ultra compact oil control ring. (Regular pistons are cast aluminum).

The supercharged engine also employs piston-colling jets, whci inject oil on the underside of the piston's crown to provide improved temperature control."

In the section on cooling system:

"Vehicles fitted with teh V8 supercharged engine have the following additional components:
- Coolant pump
- Radiator
- Oil cooler"

Interesting. I would have thought the regular engine also needed a radiator. :-) I think they mean the capacity must be larger. The diagram shows a smaller, additional radiator fitted in front of the main radiator.

No obvious changes to the transmission are shown.

Maybe one fo the techs can add to this and correct anything I have that is wrong.

Charlie
