Default Suspension clunks!

Car rides well and shocks/struts seem to work ok, but there is a loud clunk when I hit uneven seems in the road. It sounds like the front end is going to fall off. I replaced the lower control arms and had it aligned but that had no affect on it. I am afraid it is going to fall apart while I am driving it, any ideas as to what can make this noise? Thanks for your help!

I had the away bar bushings and the control arms done and my car still clunks. I have learned to just live with it since I don't want to replace each suspension part hoping something will eventually work.

But it really sounds like the front end is going to fall out from under it. There used to be the same kind of noise in the back. The front is so noisy that I can't hear the back anymore.

Have you checked the engine and exhaust mounts?

I know one mount that usually is the one. Its the transfer case mount. It is part #C2S38951.

Good luck in your search,
The Dr!

Is that a difficult and expensive part to replace? It sounds like it is more in the front end. It doesn't make any noise while cornering and rolls down the road smoothly but there is some vibration around 45-55mph.

Rick: If you have checked the lower suspension points and they are fine, I recommend you check the upper Shock Strut Mounts. The Front shock struts are attached to the chassis through the upper mount, which is essentially a spherical bearing embedded in a rubber plate with 3 bolts that bolt to the shock tower in the wheel well. On high mileage vehicles (over 80k) The bearing is suspect and will loosen its tight fit. This develops into a rattle you hear as you drive. The bearing is vibrating with each bump or jounce. To fix the problem the Strut must be removed and the Strut Mount replaced. Depending on your automotive repair skills this is more involved and you might want to let a shop handle it. The part cost is about $75 each but the labor will be more. This fixed the incessant noise and handling improved in my Jag. It was worth the effort, now my car runs silent. good luck

I will try that, does it have those on the rear as well? I have replaced struts on our Taurus and yes it is a fair amount of work but also costly if you have someone else do it. My biggest problem is I don't trust repair shops, so I do almost all of my own work at least until I get too old to do it.
