RE: Things to Look Out For When Purchasing an X-Type
Yeah, I drive an SC400 (hence, SuperCoupe400). I visit Club Lexus every now and then, but I post mostly on the LOC (Lexus Owner's Club).
Like I said, the G35 coupe was what she wanted before we decided to start a family. That's out the window now. Sedan or bust. Because we WON'T be doin' the soccer mom minivan thing[sm=nono.gif]
Regarding reliability - I never even read any "Consumer Reports" ratings. Those things aren't always to be trusted. I always search out web forums where owners talk about the problems they experience on a regular basis with their cars. That's how I found out about most of the issues plaging BMWs.
True, thereare no 'perfect' cars on the road, but let's face it, a Civic will outlive a Neon and no-one could argue different.
I must correct something you said bojangles, Jag in-fact HAS had a good reliability rating. A couple years back the '96-'98 XJ series was rated either 2nd or 3rd ona list of most reliable used cars.

GET A G35 SEDAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome car, super quick, great suspension, cheap repairs if something goes wrong, the VQ35 is basically in every car that Nissan/Infinity makes, great track record. What are you waiting for?

Aww man, the G35 Sedan has just as beautiful lines.
you can't even tell if this is a coupe or sedan?

She'll drive the sedan if it's got the side skirts and a spoiler. I'll have to get an aftermarket woodgrain kit for it though. That's onearea the G35s are lacking, imho. We both prefer the character that natural wood grain adds to an interior as opposed to the brushed aluminum Infinitiseems to beso enamored with.

My advise to you is to purchase your jag from a certified jag dealer. The extended warranty is a must. I have an '02 X-Type that I absolutly love, but I have had my share of problems. Mostly minor, but my transmission was just replaced as only 48,000 miles. All in all the car is beautiful and the few problems I do have will never out weigh the goods about the car. Go by the jag and enjoy the experience.

I agree on not getting the G35 sedan if you have the coupe now... You'd be blowing money on something just like what you already have, and it also would not nearly be as enjoyable. I love all G35s, but there is a noticeable difference in style and sportiness when you see the sedan vs the coupe on the road.
I dont blame her on loving the 5-series. That is definately one of the greatest cars when it comes to looks/performance vs price ratio. But, getting a 3 year old jag vs a 3 year old 5 series will be a huge difference in price...
Jags are way overpriced in my opinion, so I would never buy one new. When it comes to used cars, however, I think the Jags are the best value for getting the prestige of a luxury car without blowing a bunch of money.
As for S vs X, I would never spend the extra money to get the S-type. Its basically the same car, at least to a woman who doesn't look deep down inside. The S looks the same, but maybe less sporty, and in her case I would save money and get an X-type. The saved money will translate into a chance to buy again at a sooner time down the road.

Hey,
I wanted to add my 2 cents worth of information. I believe with the problems I've seen, read about, that 99% of problems with Jags is that people want to treat them like every other car they've ever owned; problem is you can't. A Jag is not a car that you can take to Wal-Mart to get serviced. You don't want to do a $25 dollar oil change in these cars. Nor do you want to do a brake service or coolant system service by "Joe Blow" the mechanic. These cars are very high maintenance, like a spoiled girl. Treat these cars well and they will treat you well, treat them like crap and that's what you'll get, crap.
