New member xj8 flooding problem
Hi there i am a new member and this is my very first thread. I am desperate for some advice on my xj8 3.2 sport v8 1998 jag.i have had this problem 5 times since buying my jag 2 years ago .the problem is that sometimes when i try to start the car it can flood very easily if it doesn't kick in straight away.i have been told that the petrol inside the chambers is diluting the oil round the piston rings therefore the chambers have very little compression and just continues to flood even more.i have been told how to get the car started by taking out all 8 plugs and coils, drying them out and putting oil into the chambers and disconnecting the fuel pump fuse, replacing the plugs and coils ,fire up the engine. If it kicks in replace the fuel pump fuse to continue fuel feed.an absolute pain to go through this every time it floods.can anyone tell me if they have the same problem and what is causing this i.e.cheap oil put in at garage service and also exactly how much oil i should put in the chambers.desperate, please help.ps jag garage, (not dealer) takes £120 to rectify this.

I had the same thing happen to me, I was claying the car in the garage and had to move it 3ft the engine was on about 20 seconds, after I had finished my nice work on the car, wanted to move it out the garage, and of course it would not start, flooded, so I held the accelerator to the floor and turned it over till it started about 30 seconds and it fired up, I quickly leaned that these engine don't like being switched on and off to quickly, especially when cold.

But the correct approach to overcoming a flooded 308 is to hold the pedal all the way to the stop and crank it until it cleans out and starts. Don't crank it for more than a few seconds each time, the starter will heat up if you crank too long.
But maybe a can of SEAFOAM and a cleaning of the bore and throttle might preclude a problem in the future. How old are the plugs?
