2005 XJ8L intermittent misfire and restricted performance

A few months ago, the car suddenly went to limp mode with the restricted perfromance lights. I got the car home and the next day everything was fine. The codes were p0300, p0301, p0303, p0305, p1316. I cleared the codes and its been fine for the past few months. 2 days ago, it went to limp mode again, the same codes came back. I know its misfiring on those cylinders randomly. I'm thinking it may need new coils/plugs.
Is there anything else i should check before changing coils/plugs? I'd hate to spend the money on the coils and then find out it was a sensor or something else casuing the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Ryan.

I had this same issue. The car would hesitate and was on restricted performance at higher rpms. Check engine light was on too. I had the codes read at Autozone and replaced the coil and spark plug for the affected cylinder myself. I ended up having a bad fuel injector which my local mechanic replaced. Car runs fine and check engine light went out on its own. Good luck.

It was not the coils. I cleared the codes and changed some coils around to see if the problem would move, and i have not seen any misfire codes since; must have been bad gas.
However, i now have code p2135. Every few weeks the car goes into limp mode, with engine malfunction, dsc fault, park brake fault on the dash. When i turn the key to the number 2 position (right before the crank position) the lights are on the dash telling me of faults before the engine is running. It sounds like one of the throttle body sensors or the throttle body itself. Does anyone have any experience with this particular problem?

This past weekend, it happened again. During the beginning of a 240 mile trip, The lights came on and the car went into limp mode. I pulled over to check the TB connections; i unplugged them and plugged them back in. The car started fine and i finished the trip without problems.
I took the battery and had it load tested and it came back fine. Apparently my cleaning of the connections also did not work. What else can i do? It seems electrical; if the throttle body was bad, wouldn't the car consistently go into limp mode and not every other week for a few minutes?
Any help would be appreciated. It looks like i may have to shell out the money for a new TB after all.

If your have misfires, does it do it under heavy acceleration, If so I would check the long term fuel trim, if its over 7% I would start by cleaning the injectors. Number two I have seen the flywheel develop burrs on them, so the crank sensor doesn't read correctly. The flywheel will have to be deburred, with like a die grinder just lighty, you can do it without taking the trans out. Lastly, if all that is done and you still only get misfire codes, I would replace the plugs and coils.
