Default How to remove glove box on 1990 Jaguar sovereign

I just purchased a 1990 Jaguar Sovereign. The body is in great shape, having never been in a fender bender. The interior is immaculate.

My problem is that the heater blower motor(s) are not working. After a lot of searching, I have come to realize that there is a relay in the duct work that is the most common culprit. I have removed the little panel inside the glove box and I don't see the relay. My next step is to remove the entire glove box. I would really appreciate some advise to proceed. Also if there is a way to bypass that relay, I would be interested.

If it's the relays (there are two) and/or transistor speed controls, they are located inside the blower motor casings. You usually have to remove the blowers to get access to them.

Check you have power on the brown wire to the blower from the footwell fuseboxes also. That wire is always live even with the ign off.
Do your panel control lights work?

Larry

Hi The Wizard,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

Your blower motor problems are very common and can usually be resolved with a little detective work and effort. As Larry suggests, you should first check for 12V power to both blower motors and respond to his question about the lights on your A/C control panel (if they do not illuminate, please also let us know if your radio lights illuminate).

I would recommend you download the Haynes manual for the XJ40 from the Jaguar Forums download area at this link:

You may also find section 9 of the Jag-Lovers XJ40 eBook to be informative. You will need to register at Jag-Lovers (it's free), but since you'll find lots of very helpful XJ40 info in the archives there, it's well worth it:

Cheers,

Don
