Default Help finding service records

Hi,
I'm looking at potentially purchasing a 1999 XKR with 70k miles from a 1 owner car that was just traded in to a dealer (non Jaguar). They do not have copies of the service records.
I was hoping one of the standing Jag Techs that frequent this forum would be so very kind as to pull up the service records of this vehicle. I am concerned if the tensioners have been replaced and other potential problem areas.

Thanks in advanced.

Welcome to the forum earlyred,

(I've deleted the identical question you accidentally posted in X308 forum.)

I'd be VERY suspicious of a fifteen year old, one owner Jaguar with no service records. You have to really like a vehicle to keep it for that length of time and enthusiasts keep records.

There are two kinds of service/repair records. Warranty work is kept centrally on a Jaguar data base. That should be available with a polite request to any Jaguar dealer using the VIN. The report you get back is very abbreviated with only date and a 'casual' part number. That means that more than one action was taken on a single visit you are only going to see one item. There is no customer specific information on that report so there is no privacy issue.

Maintenance and repairs are kept only in the servicing dealers' records and over the many years of the age of this car they may have changed computer systems and dumped records several times. These records will have private information such as owner's names, addresses and phone numbers and even credit card info. Generally, you are not going to get these records even if you can find the servicing dealer unless you have a release from the previous owner.

Thank you both test point and GGG for responding. The XKR that I am looking at the dealer wants $7900. They only have 1 key . I will talk with the local dealer and find what information that I can find. The XKR has excellent curb appeal.
I can do mechanical work if the tensioners, water pump, and do other PM. I also will go through the XK8 /XKR buy checklist. The question I have is if the checklist checks out, is $7800 a good price for a 99 XKR?
I'd welcome any input and or suggestions.

They could supply another key

Generally they are sold with at least 2 (often 3).

maybe "casual" -> "causal"

Early red, is this a coupe or vert? If all checks out and the car is in good visual and mechanical condition I'd say it's an excellent price.

Jandreu, It's a convertible. If mechanically it's sound, but needs the tensioners, water pump, and other PM replaced or done (DIY), would you still consider it an excellent price?

It is certainly an attractive price. Any body repairs? Leather good? Top works OK?

Upper tensioners can be done DIY for $200, $800 Indy, $1200 dealer?

Water pump DIY for $150 including coolant.

Hi Test Point, the body is excellent, the leather is excellent except for the drivers seat which is good (showing some wear). The top works fine.
Thanks for the info on cost BTW.
