help with restricted performance issue
I have a 2001 xk8, engine lite and "Restricted Performance" lite keeps coming on. Had valves cleaned of oil and new spark plugs, after about 20 miles, it happened again.
Have you ever had this problem?
Thanks,
RL

went to Advance Auto yesterday afternoon, they checked the battery, 12.5 volts
They could not find a place to plug in the code reader, she said that it might be under a door that had about 4 screws in it. So, no codes
PS - what is a hard reset, guess I didn't have it done
Restricted Performance light was out last nite, only the engine light was on.
after about 15 miles, on the way home from Advance, the Restricted Performance light came on again, and the engine lost power, skipped and burped.
I guess I need a Jaguar mechanic, local mechanics only do a few things and charge me $340.00 dollars. Light still on.

the OBD port is on the drivers side under the dash to the left of the steering wheel (right up against the door).
Here is a link to a previous thread where Graham provides a nice picture of its location

if you go to the very first page of the XK8/XKR section, the first few threads contain some excellent resources including some how to's:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/
open the above link and about 3/4ths the way down the page there is alink to OBD codes

You can also go to Gus's site - Jagrepairs.com - the link to the OBD codes is below:

Why buy a OBD reader online, you could of bought one at any auto parts store.
EBAY is much cheaper, plus free shipping.
I would go autozone, show them the location of the obd port, they will print the codes, simply post here to us.
Went to Advance Auto, they could not find the OBD port.
I will, however, try Autozone.
Thank you,

Restricted Performance
Got the code reader, didn't use, went to Amesbury Foreign Auto this morniing.
It was running good at that point, only the Engine light was on, not the Restricted Performance light. So he read the codes, didn't tell me the codes, but said the reader told him the number 2 valve was the culprit. But it was running great, so he reset the engine light and all was fine. For about 10 miles, the the Restricted Performance light came on again, but not the Engine light. Can't figure it out. I guess I will have to have a mechanic keep it for a while to figure out what is really wrong. Does not run as smooth as it did 2 hours ago. Any ideas ?

Try taking the coil access covers off and examine the cabling and the plug-ins on the coils. Look for signs of moisture and condensation. Try cleaning the coil connectors but be careful as the plastic gets very brittle and its easy to break the holes out that the release clips slide into.
