Carfection Enjoys Dream Day With the 2017 Jaguar F-Type 400 Sport
Welsh roads and some Jaguar track time soothe the automotive soul.
What’s your idea of a perfect day? We suspect it involves your car, presumably a Jaguar, and we presume it looks a lot like the ideal perfect day for Carfection’s Alex Goy. He borrowed the keys to one of Jaguar’s limited-edition F-Type 400 Sport for his special day. And he did what you should do with this car: Knock it around the Welsh backroads and then spend an afternoon at a racetrack.
The 400 Sport fills out where the normal V6 F-Type left off, Goy says. The slight horsepower bump for the 3.0-liter V6 makes a world of difference. That engine makes, as you might guess from the name, 400 horsepower. That figure in practicum means 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. All Sport 400s come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. While you can order a regular F-Type with a manual, the 400 Sport unfortunately does not include a row-your-own gear set.
In addition to the power increase, the 400 Sport gets some fancy racing seats with embroidered headrests. Additionally, The front gets a slightly different treatment with some carbon-fiber aerodynamic elements. Bigger brakes and configurable suspension and transmission dynamics make it ready to tackle the greasy hill roads outside Cardiff.
So how does the 400 Sport handle Alex Goy’s big day out? For starters, the 400 horsepower V6 makes just a tad too much for practical road-carving. However, almost everything works well on the Llandow Circuit in Wales where Carfection flogged this F-Type. The major exception, Goy says, was the automatic gearbox that just lacked sharpness on the racetrack.
We can think of worse companions on a big day than the 400 Sport. Jaguar nailed the proportions on this Big Cat and she looks a proper grand tourer. And as the Carfection host points out, you don’t need a Jaguar for a grand day out. Hop in your own car and just drive for a day. It’ll be good for you.
