Since partnering with land speed team Bloodhound SSC, Jaguar has been supplying fire-fighting Rapid Response Vehicles and equipment testing to help the team meet the 1,000 MPH goal. It’s natural for Jaguar to become technical partners with British world land speed record holders, as they’ve done twice in the past. But nowadays, it’s way more comprehensive. Watch the video below and you’ll see that Jaguar is serious about speed.

Through the ‘80s and ‘90s, Jaguar supplied bespoke modified XJ fire fighting Rapid Response Vehicles equipped with the finest fire-fighting fittings. Today Jaguar has its hands much deeper in the SSC project. Along with providing the Bloodhound SSC with Angloco-equipped modern XJ Short-Wheel Base RRVs for emergencies, Jag’s Special Vehicle Operations has retrofitted F-Types with componentry that the Bloodhound land speed vehicle will use while attempting 1,000 MPH this November.

The first test, back in mid 2015, worked out high speed communication using the F-Type’s top speed of 186 MPH to iron out frequency issues. Other tests have been done, but the most exciting test so far was the Bloodhound SSC’s parachute test shown below. The vid shows how Jaguar built up an F-Type with a full roll-cage to attach the parachute, then tested forces of deployment and braking.

The entire partnership should help Jaguar evolve as a company, and continue to develop the future of speed.
