Jaguar XF Sportbrake: World Record for Fastest Towed Speed on Skis

By -

The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Fastest Towed Speed on Skis was 112.65 kph. Now watch Jaguar, and British Olympic Skier Graham Bell, crush that record in style.

The Jaguar XF sedan has been on sale since 2007 and received a model refresh in 2011. Jaguar XF Sportbrake (wagon) originally debuted in 2012 and was on sale till 2015 in the UK. The first generation Sportbrake even had the mighty R-S model with the 550 hp supercharged V8. This beautiful XF wagon has been forbidden fruit for us here in the US. Any wagon lover can appreciate the beautiful design of this luxury Sportbrake. Finally in June of 2017, Jaguar announced they would be bringing the XF Sportbrake to the US as a 2018 model. The elegant and sleek profile stands out in a sea of boring SUVs and sedans. We can not wait to review one when they arrive later this year. The additional utility and practicality give it a huge advantage over a traditional sedan, without the handling or mpg penalty of a SUV.

Speaking of utility, Jaguar has already put the new XF Sportbrake to work, helping break a world record. Former British Olympic Skier Graham Bell partnered with Jaguar to challenge the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Fastest Towed Speed on Skis. The record breaking run took place on the Revi Test Center’s frozen lake in Arjeplog, Sweden. The Jaguar XF Sportbrake used in the record is similar to the specification that will be on sale here, this winter. Powering the XF, is the familiar 3 liter supercharged V6, putting out 380 horsepower. Of course, this model had the optional all wheel drive system fitted, similar to the optional one found on the current XF sedan. The Sportbrake also featured a self-leveling rear air suspension to help maintain the ride height under load.

The speed record to beat was 112.65 kph or 69.99 mph. Graham Bell was aiming for over 100 mph. The record setting run had Bell doing over 189 kph or 117 mph. The XF Sportbrake towed Bell to the new record. Bell said he would go even faster, if they had a longer track. We are proud of Bell and Jaguar’s accomplishment and can not wait to experience the 2018 XF Sportbrake.
