Strange that you would ask, because I was just giving another member advice via emails regarding these speakers. I listened to many different brands of components - Boston Acoustic, Kenwood, Alpine, etc...and these Polks had the best midrange of the group. Not over-the-top with the high end (which drives me nuts!!) with the silk dome tweeters, and the vocals are absolutely great. I have had these same Momo 6.5inch components in my last Jeep, and now the XK8. You will be very happy with them if you so choose to buy them.

My buddy has them in his bonneville, they sound good! I'd personally go and hear them in person before you make the plunge! Regardless of our opinions everyone is different! How good of a deal are you getting?

Hey h20 did you power them off head unit or amp them? I'd imagine they'd sound really good hooked to a 4 channel!

Good point AQ, everyone's taste IS different, I was only trying to point out what I noticed over the other brands I listened to. I'd really like to hear their new SR series, but for $600 a pair, i'll pass on that one, no matter how good they sound.

To answer your question also, I installed them with a new amp, so I never got a chance to hear them on the stock setup. You're right, the quality will most likely be different than my experience. Still, I would recommend them, especially if a deal can be made. New, they can be had for $175 or so...internet shopping.

I have picked them up for $130 via craigslist. I want to run them off my mtx amp and I am trying to rewire the car thru the doors. What a pain, any tips? I obtained a wiring color code diagram and seem to have found the speaker wires + and - in the trunk and could probably tap them there. Does anyone think the stock speaker wiring can handle around 75 watts rms? By appearance they seem to be the same guage.

Also I documented how to retrofit the the momo tweeter into the stock housing - I will make a seperate post for that. Anyone?

One other question - is there an amplifier on this system? If there is where is it located. I can't seem to find it - is it in the subwoofer? It doesn't appear thatI can get thru the doors into the car, so I will have to make due. The plundge on the door comes off easily, The part on the pillar unscrews but there is some kind of plastic harness in there. If it is possible please let me know. I would rather run my own wires.

Hey christo, did you You should be ok with a 75rms on the existing wiring, though if you can upgrade it, i would.

Find the amp yet? Aquill and other x-type owners can tell you about wiring and where that is located...i don't know for sure on yours.

If you need the correct wiring diagram, send me an email to my personal address matt (dot) hopper (@) att [dot] net and i'll send it to ya. Hope your project is going well.

Hey Matt, thanks bro, I appreciate your concern and I will send you an email. This is a great forum. Thanks. I have a list of wire colors from bestbuy, guy told me not to swear by it, but looks good to me. Either way I have not found the amplifier. I am planning on bypassing the amp all together. Hope this is possible. I found a group of wires going into the sub on the back deck and unplugged the howeve only the stock sub shut down. Oh well. I did tap the rear speakers off that harness and got my Kicker sub going. The momo's are in and they sound ok but not what I expected. I want to run my other amplifier but want to don't want to take any chances. I am probably going to yank the radio but I work in trenton, nj so I might need something that I can make invisible.

If anyone knows where that amp is please do tell...

I wouldn't tap into the sub's wires chrsto...as they are only getting low frequencies...find that amp, and you will be doing much better. I suppose you pulled down all of the carpet in the trunk looking for the amp?

You are absolutey right sir. I pulled the harness out of the sub and found what seems to be the rear speaker wires. I am running off of those. Is this at all possible? Either way right now all I have is a sub running ona MTX amp. Everything else is running on the radio/amplifier. How am I doing so far. Not to mention Heineken has been helping me along lol.

Oh I wasn't saying you were wrong or anything at all h20...just stating sometimes it is best to listen to them in person...it's easy to make me happy but some people are quite particular about the sound they want. Polk are widely recommended by lots of people and you can't beat a good deal!

Good viewing choice! The olympics were awesome as there isn't much to watch at 4am in the hospital! LOL Got to watch the opening ceremony at the hospital!

If I'm not mistaken the amp is usually with the sub. Personally I'd swap out the stock radio for an aftermarket one but there'd be a good amount of work involved. The links supplied should help...The other thing you could do is spot the wires going into the door and track them backwards...

I found that there is a single supply to the door and it gets split to the woofer and tweeter. The Polk Momo's require a separate feed for the woofer and tweeter because of the crossover - so it looks like I need to find a way thru. The rubber grommet on the door comes off easily however the piece that goes into the car (A Pillar?) seems pretty complicated and I don't know much about it. I can unscrew the coverand it seems to allow me to pull it back. It reveals a plastic piece that does not seem to all a wire or 2 to pass thru it.

Has anyone re-wired their door successfully? I can't put the crossover in the door as it is not waterproof...

You could always put the crossover below the dash and run the tweeter/mid bass wires through the door. I was pretty sure that the tweets were powered from the head unit from what I've read elsewhere???
