I was hoping to get some suggestions/recommendations for speakers in my 2004 X-type. I've got a stock system (not premium/nav unit) that sounds...crappy...

I was thinking of starting with the 6.5" ones in the door, then replacing the tweeters in the front. An audio-enthusiast co-worker recommended JL Audio and Focal speakers, i don't have any experience with either of these brands (my home audio is all Klipsh)

If you're not factory amplified then I'd get an aftermarket amp if you're going to start replacing speakers. It's gonna sound worse with power hungry aftermarket speakers and 10W of power feeding them.

Look into a signal processor from Rockford or JL to get RCA preouts for aftermarket amps.

The rest is pretty subjective to your tastes, although Focal makes a damn nice speaker. Better then JL as far as I'm concerned. $pendy though!
