Upgrading the stereo
Well since I had to tear apart the dash anyways for blower motor replacement. I have decided to upgrade the stereo. I went with the clarion FB275BT. I'm looking at replacing the door speakers with 4" boston acoustics. I'm wondering if anyone else has come up with a good idea for replacing the factory subs underneath the back seat?
I've been doing some searching and it seems a 5 1/4 can be massaged in there. Anyone have some experience on sizes and fitment/
Also I was wondering where people had been hiding their amp? In the trunk? If so how bad is it to run the power back there past the steel walls and gas tank?
Will post pics as I progress..

Went for Focals in my X-Type when I upgraded from the standard to the premium setup with Jag amp after advice from the multi award winning car audio shop that did the upgrade.
Went from running 4 std poor Jag (Philips) speakers to 9 speakers including a kick-*** Focal sub in a custom made fibreglass enclosure trimmed to match the boot carpet and against the side wall to minimise used space.
Can turnall settingsto max without distortion.
There is a write up on the upgrade in x type sectin under FAQ.

That's a nice radio. I just watched that presentation video on crutchfield. No cd-rom but now a built in sd card reader - I think that is the way of the future. Cd's are going to become old school - lol!
Focals are great speakers too!

When I upgradedmy stereo I replaced the door speakers with Boston Acoustic and the sound wasn't nearly as good as I expected. It wasn'tuntil I replaced the woofers under the back seat that I achieved the desired sound.Replacing thewoofers makes all thedifference in the sound. The woofers are a more critical component of the sound than the door speakers.I did my own installation of the woofers (bought Alpine)....they are easily accessed once you lift up the seat bottom.
