Default Future Meet : Caloundra Air Museum

Hi guys

I have just been thinking about an idea for a future meet, maybe in the next few months.

Some of you may recall last year I had an impromptu shown n shine at the Caloundra Air Museum:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...-shine-140658/

The management here are very friendly and on that particular day they let me bring my XJS in and park her next to an E-Type that was on display. They were actually having a British Ford meet.

Anyway, if enough people were keen I thought that maybe if I talked to management I could organise for us to have a Jaguar Forum meet there. Once they open the side gates there is a huge grass area you can park your cars on (see my link).

We could park there, show off our cars and check out all the planes they have there.

If I can co-ordinate it I could even see if I could plan it for their Aero Run day.

Anyway just an idea. If enough are keen I can organise it as it is only down the road from me.

Sounds like a plan Paul, I'll leave it your capable hands.
Run with it, and I'll help out with group emails when you get rolling.(can email 25 at a time) and already have the member names saved for it.

Remember we have this one in the pipeline too, which I am going to follow up with Jim(58mk1x2) in the near future. Let's make sure we don't clash on dates.

Well guys. It seems this plan has some substance after yesterday...

I ducked in yesterday and had a chat with the manager Peter and he seemed very keen for us to meet there. He says this up coming Aero Engine Run day would of been perfect (2nd April) as he has no cars coming to that day but unfortunately I will be at work. The next big event there is Open Cockpit weekend (2nd and 3rd of July) however he already has some classic cars coming to that weekend.

That leaves us with pretty much a dozen other weekends however it may not be as busy or as much turn up on just a regular weekend. But not to worry. Peter says he is happy to get people come through. He even says he can help us organise a BBQ or whatever.

Basically we would rock up (Im guessing a Sunday works for most) park our cars along the airfield side of the main display hangar, show n shine, have a BBQ, and check out the awesome planes on display. Should be a great day.

We have pretty much the rest of 2016 to do it but I'd like to start throwing some dates or even months around when would suit everybody.

Any suggestions? For me in the first half of the year I can do
can do the 1st of May but that may conflict with people's May Day celebrations. Any Sunday in June except for the 5th would also work (so good = 12th,19th or 26th)

In the meantime here is the website:

QAM Website ? Queensland Air Museum

For those that haven't been it is a really great museum and the staff (all volunteers) are super friendly. The have a F111 fighter jet in their first hangar then out the back in the main hanger that have a vast collection of vintage planes, domestic and military, jets and few choppers too. My fav is the RAF Navy Helicopter. Check out their website for further info.

To be continued....

p.s My signature photo below was taken from parking there last year on my impromptu show n shine

Hi guys.

Well it looks like May 1st is out for this one as that is Euro Day at Lakeside:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...2016-a-158445/

I am going to contact Peter, the events Co-ordinator of the Air Musuem this week with some possible dates.

I am aiming for June, on a Sunday, either 12th 19th or 26th.

If I can get some feedback of who might be interested Ill put some numbers forward to Peter. I think it will be a great day!

Look forward to hearing from you

Paul, I will PM all Qld members with the 3 dates you have in mind, then I think we should wait a week or so see to what date suits best and set the date and book it in.

Gives everybody plenty of time to plan ahead.

Alright guys. Sounds like this is coming together. The dates have been narrowed down to either June 12th or June 19th.

So far we have:

1) James (34by151)
2) Clarke (o1xjr)
3) Paul (paulyling)
4) Doc [Maybe]

It would be great to get around 20 cars turn out for this event as it would be a nice display along the main hangar in contrast to the Planes. It would also mean some great photo op's too!

Last year next to the lonely E-Type and the British Ford club cars, by the main hangar:

Cool contrast with the aeros:

Inside the main hangar:

And out into the field:

Paul,

I've set your thread as a STICKY so it stays at the top of the list. If you PM me when the date is settled, I'll edit the thread title to include it.

Graham

Hi Guys

I heard back from the events organiser today:

Hi Paul,
Yes I did sorry been tied up with new planes arriving.
Either date is fine with us just let me know when you have final numbers

Regards

Peter Asher
Events Manager QAM
They have been busy with some new planes they acquired and are setting them up. Sounds pretty groovy.

Anyway, hopefully we'll build a few more numbers and pick one of the two dates at this stage. Judging by most it would seem either the 12th or the 19th of June is equally fine. Any preferences?

So far...

1) James (34by151)
2) Clarke (o1xjr)
3) Paul (paulyling)
4) Doc [Maybe]
5) Doug and Lois (ozxj)

Still a few more months to go but anybody else keen to come along?

Peter didnt really give a minimum of numbers so it should be all good either way however I might send him final numbers around the start of June.

Paul, I'll send out a group PM to Qld members after Easter.
It usually takes a few PM's to get numbers growing.

12th or 19th is okay for us Paul, so will let others make the choice if it matters to them. Thanks, Doug.

Cheers Doug. Should be a great day mate. Both dates penciled in and we'll make a definitive choice closer to the day by the looks.

Hi All,
Looking like a bit of a turnout so far, hoping the numbers will grow before the date.
As a token of appreciation for showing our cars at the Air Museum Paul has mentioned to me it would be fitting to donate to the Museum.
Paul suggested a raffle, but I don't think we have the numbers to make a raffle sustainable, but if you have any ideas please post them. Personally I would be happy to make a cash donation on the day.
