Default 1996 vdp rims

hey fellas, i was just wondering what the 96 vdp rims were made of? If they are aluminum i could strip off the plastic coating and polish them. Yeh i know it would be a lot of work!!!! But i can't afford chrome right now!! What type of rims do you guys have on your xj6??

I'm not sure which rims your car has, but I believe all of the rims that aren't chrome are aluminum and have somewhat of a clear coat on them. I wouldn't bother stripping the coating. Just polish them up really nice, and that should put a very nice finish on them.

You can polish the clear coat like you would the paint. At least, that's what I do with mine. I suppose, in theory, you could remove the coating, and polish the aluminium to a mirror like shine, but that would take a good bit of upkeep. This thread might be better off in the detailing section, or the wheels/tires to get more responses.

Just be glad you aren't stuck with Dayton wire wheels! They are a booger to keep clean, and no locks for them either!
