Default Rail or Brake Dust Removal on a Black XJ8

My 99 XJ has near perfect paint except for the rough stuff on top of the paint. I have not looked through a magnifier, but I'm thinking it's a metallic dust.

I tried a bit of rubbing compound on a rag in a spot and it polished up the paint but did not remove the rough stuff.

I don't really have time to clay bar the car myself and am curious what kind of cost I'm looking at to have the car done at a detail shop.

I'd also like it polished after the clay work is done.

Any Ideas of a price range I should expect?

Anyone know of a good shop in the Waukesha Wisconsin area?

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

Stay away form compounds, they are too agressive...cleaners with a diminishing abrasives works better. Without looking at the contaminants thru a magnifying glass it would be hard to determine if it's fallout or something else. Or if the clay pulls up a red/rusty color its fallout

To have a professional thoroughly clay all surfaces, paint, glass, lights (front and rear) depending on how extensive the contamination is, you could be looking at spending anywhere between $350.00 - 550.00 for a complete 3 step polish....again it could be more.....

Wash
Clay
Rotary Polish
D/A Polish
D/A Wax or Seal

Let me check with my network for this area and get back to you...

David,

Thanks for the input. You are correct about the compounds. I really used a product that has the diminishing abrasives. I'm old school and still use the old words.

The stuff did not even touch what was on there.

I look forward to your referral. BTW....the work you do is very impressive.
