Default 1969 etype v6 4.2

is it possible and/or worth it to convert my 1969 etype 4.2 6cyl to a v12 engine? If possible how many other parts need to be updated if converted from a v6 to a v12 engine. thanks

The 69' E-Type is a short wheelbase car where as the V12 cars are longer by 9".
XKs Unlimited may still do the conversion (as Jay Leno has) where a front half of a
V12 car is mated to the rear of an earlier car. I think the car is cut just behind the windshield (windscreen). The result is a short wheelbase V12 , Not an easy DIY

The OP doesn't actually state if his car is a Roadster, two seater Coupe, or a 2+2. If the car is a 2+2, then its the same length as a Series III.

The length is gained through the door area, not the rear panels. Therefore, a Short Wheel Base Series III Roadster could be made from a Standard Series III Roadster by:

1. using the shorter doors from a Series II Coupe or Roadster
2. using the original back end of the Series III Roadster
3. shortening the floor

In any regard, the question was related to swapping engines, not making a short wheel base car out of a Series III, as was the case with Leno's car.

To the OP

What you're asking to do is a very doable conversion as a DIY. Much easier than a Series II 2+2 to Roadster, that's currently being done by a friend of mine. The result of his conversion will be a Long Wheel Base Series II Roadster.

Regards,

Bill

Default 69etypeseries2 2+2 v12 conversion ?s from a straight 6 cylinder

Hello , thank you for your response to my question regarding v12 conversion ?s from a straight 6 cylinder. my 1969 jag etype series2 is a 2+2 however if it involves cutting of the car frame I will probably won't convert to a v12. thanks again

No cutting is required. I'll check it out further on two cars I have here and Post back and let you know what's required.

The mounting at the rear of the front Sub Frames is the same for S2 and S3. The engine mounting would be different, and I think the Picture Frame is different. What you want to do is very doable with only the replacement of parts; no cutting.

Because the rear mounting of the Sub Frames is the same, I would be inclined to buy a set of S3 Subs (you see them from time to time for sale for not much money). This would mean that all the engine mounting at the front is taken care of without any modifications.

Regards,

Bill

From within the eBay environment, search for the following item

Item Number: 221510235101

Its a set of S3 front Sub Frames. These will bolt straight onto you S2 Bulkhead, providing the correct forward engine mounts for a V12 engine.

Regards,

Bill
