Default Acceleration Issue

I have a 73 E Type S3 2+2 V12 auto. 52k orig miles and was working great. I drove it around the block after redoing the front brakes and all of the sudden it started hesitating when I hit the gas pedal. I can pump the pedal to the floor in drive while driving and it doesnt really do anything. it doesnt feel like a miss, but something much more. I was able to idle home carefully back to the garage. It idles in park perfectly and accelerates normally when you pump the gas. However, when in drive under load, it is not working and i cant get the rpms up.

I have an SNG Barrett electronic distributer kit installed. That was done by previous owner last year. It was running great so not sure what to check.

Thanks,
Jim

sounds to me like you need to look at the fuel system first, filter, lines, for a source of starvation. Other will chime in I'm sure.

fuel system was completely flushed with boiled out gas tank, new pump lines etc. But, always good to check again. seems odd that i happens only under load and not at idle.

Perhaps pull a line and check you flow from the fuel pump? Sometimes even new pumps fail, new filters get clogged.

It takes less fuel to keep an engine running at idle than it does under load. Off the cuff I agree that it sounds like fuel starvation.

Cheers

I agree, check fuel. For years I had an acceleration issue, the engine would stumble an falter. I ruled out ignition etc. As it turned out with mods, headers, air cleaners, ignition, had put a strain on the carb needles (Triple SUs). I switched to a slightly richer UE needle and the stumble cleared......
Good luck in your quest.....

It is often said that 99% of fuel issues are actually ignition problems.....Power loss under load is frequently a symptom of coil failure...If you can get your hands on a new or known , good coil, change it and see if that cures the problem.
