Default Crankshaft Damper removal

I need to pull the oil sump on my 1971 Series II 4.2L E-type.

To do that I need to remove the crankshaft damper in order to pull the sump forward to remove it.
I have removed the 4 small bolt and the tab washer.

The maint manual says remove the pulley and then the big bolt holding the damper. However, it appears that
the big bolt hold both the pulley and damper in place. Anyone know whether the pulley should be removed first,
or even if it can be removed first.
Secondly, is the big bolt right or left threaded? I haven't been able to budge it.

Any suggestions? Tricks?

Thanks,

Dan

Default DAMPER

I have been able to remove the damper by removing the center bolt, its right handed, nothing special.
Then I put 2 chisels behind the damper to create some tension to come off the shaft then it should pop off
if you hammer the chisel a little at a time.

Thanks Walter-

Since you have succeeded in removing the damper, can you tell me whether the pulley can be removed first
prior to removing the center bolt? I am having difficulty in getting a socket wrench positioned with the pulley in place, and therefore
am having difficulty applying sufficient force to loosen the center bolt. If the pulley can be removed first as the
maint manual indicates, it would be possible to better position a wrench. I have been reticent to pry the pully
after removing the 4 bolts since it still seems firmly attached and I want to avoid any damage.

Thanks,

Dan..

Dan!
You have to have an open socket wrench to remove the large bolt.
Then remove the small bolts that hold the pulley.
Then you can get 2, 1/2" tapered chisel behind the damper, .
The damper is held on the crank with a cone shape spacer.
The chisel tools I used behind the damper to knock the damper off the tapered spacer.

But my question is whether the pulley can be removed first without removing the center bolt.
That would allow access to the center bolt without having to have a swivel extension on my socket wrench.
I could use a box-ended wrench and have much better leverage.

Thanks,

Dan..
