Fuel Pump “Clicking” is Annoying!
Previous owner installed a new electric fuel pump at the right rear wheel that makes an annoying clicking sound all the time. I assume this is some type of internal pressure regulator. Engine runs fine. Can anyone recommend a quieter electric fuel pump please? 1970 Type 2.
Is it a Facet pump or similar "cube"? Then it's not a pressure regulator. These are piston pumps, what you're hearing is the piston reciprocating. They chatter continuously, under all conditions. When they wear, they chatter even more.
I use a Fuelflow pump, which works like an SU: it clicks until the system is up to pressure, then only clicks softly to keep pressure up. Or go back to an original SU. Have you looked at the shelf behind the right fender? I bet they left the original pump in it's place, and you can just rebuild it. Here's my list of compatible pumps:

The original pump is gone. Good thing I looked at the whole area from gas tank to pump. The gas lines look original to the car and the “plastic” is very stiff. Time to replace the lines also. Thank you for the pump list.
Be careful when buying the fuel line... check the threads and posts here regarding the vendors, materials and installation.
The SU pumps are easily rebuilt.. most often the points just need to be cleaned off. The SUs click at the start.. turn key to accessory position, listen for clicks to stop or slow down, then start the car. Pump then clicks to keep supply going. Pumping the pedal prior to start does not work with E type carbs.

Since the pump is new and works well I may temporarily fill the area around it with fire retardant rolled foam to cut down on the noise. It is used for lining ovens for cooking and melting metals. As it is now the constant clicking is irritating. I’ll replace later when convenient as I have a lot more pressing projects on this E Series.
The original fuel lines are nylon not plastic. They may be stiff but are probably not brittle. I'm doing a complete rebuild of my '67 but I'm still chose to use the original fuel lines.

Fuel pumps are electric motors which need air to cool them. I don't think that putting a bunch of insulation around it is a good idea.
