Long story short, I am inheriting my FIL’s 63 e-Type. It has not been driven in a couple of years and they cannot find the key. Any ideas to get a replacement? How hard is it to remove to ignition tumbler to take to a lock smith?

I wish my FIL gave me an E-type! I hope you enjoy and cherish it for many years to come. If I remember correctly you need the key and paper clip to remove the tumbler. You may want to try using the paper clip first, the barrel my come out. If not, then I would remove the whole ignition switch (disconnect the battery, remove the 2 screws holding the center panel up ,fold it down, disconnect the wires, remove the chrome ring and remove the switch). then take it to an old time lock smith and I bet he can get it out and cut a new key..

Sorry to hijack a thread, but the questions are similar. I just acquired a 1969 FHC Series 2 and it came with one ignition switch key and one door key. The ignition key works fine, but the door key operates both door locks, but not the glove box, there are no other keys. On top of that, while the key locks and unlocks both doors, pressing the passenger door button does nothing, I have to open the door from the inside.

My plan is to take the passenger door card off tomorrow to investigate a wobbly chrome window trim and why the locking mechanism isn’t working with the key unlocked. While I’m in there accomplishing multiple task, I am tempted to purchase the three tumbler lock set that SNG has for both doors and the ignition. That would give me one key for door and ignition, and then I would also purchase a new glove box lock so that it can be locked, making two keys for the car.

Questions - with an existing non-original but working ignition key, how difficult will it be to remove the ignition lock tumblers and replace, same goes for both doors since I will have one of them open for other reasons?

Finally got the key issue resolved and had the car transported to Pittsburgh. Going to have some of the basics addressed to get it running before I decide how and if to restore it.

my father in law acquired the car in the 80’s he did not restore it. But, it was definitely repainted at some point by a previous owner. It does need quite a bit of work.
