Default mystery wire 1968 xke

Just found a white wire hanging down under my dash with an in line fuse attached when I replaced the oil pressure gauge .Not sure where it is supposed to go since it is cut off 4 inches below the fuse. It is located about 5 inches to the right of the ignition or under the gauges. Maybe to the radio???? 1968 xke Anyone have a clue? Marc

There are a few choices: brake fluid indicator, fuel pump, alternator relay, ignition warning light, 12v to the ignition switch and coil and tach. None use an in line fuse. If all those things work, your dangling wire is probably an add on, a radio is a good guess. If the tach or distributor have been replaced, the wire may have once connected to the original tach (but not with a fuse). Where does the wire go to? If into the harness, it is not an add on. If you can see the connection, you can judge whether it looks original.

If it is an in-line fuse it was added later, agree best guess is that it was for a radio (could have even been for a CB radio as a lot of us put those in our cars years ago to avoid the police). But it was likely for something an owner added.
