Power Steering pump cap oil leak
Hi all,
I have a very strange leak from round the power steering filler cap on my V12 E-Type.
I noticed a while back that there was fluid leaking from somewhere around the power steering pump when I drove it last autumn. A tightened the hose connections and thought nothing of it. I have not run the engine since about October last year. Yesterday I found a fair amount of fluid on the hoses under the pump and also on the frame under the pump and some on the floor below. All together about a couple of dessert spoons full I guess. I cleaned it up, but noticed a dribble of oil coming down from the top of the pump. I wiped it all clean and put some paper towel under the pump. Today there is a dribble of oil down from the cap again and the paper is soaked in oil. Again, I haven't even run the engine! This is what I'm seeing.

The rubber seal on the cap is intact and doesnt look to be marked. Oil lever is normal on the dip stick.
I cant understand how it can syphon up and out like this when the engine hasn't even been run, it's weird. Any ideas how this could be leaking fluid? I'm at a loss!

Stored in a dried, frost protected garage. Oil level is correct on the dipstick. It leaked last night and when I took the cap off it was nowhere near the top so I don't think it can be that. It's a bizarre leak as the oil seems to be syphoning up 2 or 3 inches to drip out of the cap!

I found the problem and fortunately it was a simple fix. It turned out that the red fluid was mostly coolant! I use 4-life coolant which is red like the power steering fluid. The clue was that it was beading where it was running down the pump. If it was oil it wouldn't have beaded like that. Turns out that after the pump leaked last autumn the pump body was oily, so when the red coolant dripped down it picked up a film of oil, so it felt oily to the touch.
The coolant leak was from the transfer pipe just above the power steering pump 🤔
All sorted now. 🤗
