U joints on half shafts - 66 E-type

U joints on half shafts - 66 E-type
Replacing my U joints on one half shaft.
Any hints t make this easier?
to install them, I am removing the bearing caps, inserting in the half shaft, then sliding one cap on and pressing it in so I can put on the other cap without loosing the bearings.
Any hints from others?
Oh and the joints I buy, number 330, are difficult to remove as the center part is a bit fatter than the original.
