Hi everyone. I have a series 1.5 68 coupe. The Lucas 11ac alternator failed and I removed it and I don't know how many amps this is. It looks like there is a date code on it? "71". Maybe this was upgraded once.. I'm trying to find a replacement and I'm not sure what i should be looking for. I would like to have it rebuilt. If someone knows of a reputable shop I can ship it to that is familiar with Lucas alternators please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.
Have you looked for a new one ? They are available, although obviously not made by Lucas anymore. https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...?saveBranch=US
Could be cheaper than a shop rebuild, but who knows ?
Sorry, I'm UK based so don't know any repairers in the US
i was checking that out. It looks different around the area where the wires connect to. The new one they have like a plastic piece and mine its part of the aluminum casting. I will give them a call. The price is right.
As Fraser said, several specialty parts companies such as SNG Barratt, Moss and Welsh sell new and sometimes rebuilt ones. If you buy rebuilt ones you may have to give themour old one.
A couple of options on getting it rebuilt. Search for an automotive electrical company that provides rebuild services. There are probably many in the greater LA are.
I recommend you call British European Auto in San Pedro (310) 833-1525 1525 S. Pacific Ave.San Pedro, Los Angeles CA 90731 and discuss what your options are with them. They may be able to help you get it rebuilt. This is a Five Star repair shop with a great reputation. I recently purchased my XKE from one of his customers and had Jeff prep the car for the drive to my home near Seattle (1200 hundred miles away). Brian
We had these made a few years back, as the sole licensed supplier and manufacturer of Lucas Classic British car parts we were able to get it pretty close to original whilst using modern components for extra reliability. We have them in stock & available in standard 55amp and 70amp
