Hi. I’m an FType owner venturing into the EType forums. The EType was my first love. I’d love a ’61-’63 coupe but probably not in this lifetime. What do y’all think of this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Jaguar...%257Ciid%253A1

Of course, its on the other end of the spectrum, has some creature comforts and something one would not be afraid to drive every so often or daily. I’ve never seen this color before but the price is good. Is it a proper EType or is it something in and of itself? Opinions? Thanks.

ps: and no arguments please

It's an E-Type, Series III

Not sure what you mean by "proper".

Tastes and opinions vary regarding the 2+2 body style and the Series III changes....but if you like it, that's what counts!

I took only a quick peek at the listing but it looks like a nice car

Cheers
DD

Check Hagerty classic car prices. Only a perfect concours example is worth the $70G figure. Most series 3 2+2 drivers would be half that.

As Doug says, it is an E-Type Series 3. These cars were the first to have the 5.3 litre V12 engine fitted. The longer wheelbase of the Series 2 2+2 was used for both the coupe and the OTS versions, plus the car was restyled to take wider tyres and look "more modern". A nice car to have if you can get one in the right condition at the right price. Power steering was fitted, and it was claimed this made the car less sporty. More powerful brakes too.

I remember sitting in my friend's 4.2 Series 2 OTS on the Cromwell Road in London in summer '73 in the usual traffic jam, and chatting to the owner of one of the then new V12 OTS. He said he thought it was only running on 11 cylinders but it was hard to tell ! However it was apparently fast enough. At that time we had a 70 mph limit on motorways, but outside town on normal roads it was unlimited.

Thanks for all the feedback. The Series I has always been a first love but it would be something I would be afraid to drive. I would wind up leaving it in the garage and staring at it. I did go to a meet where a fellow drove his $200K nuts and bolts rotisserie restoration and I admired him for it.

For some reason, not sure why, but I’d be more inclined to drive a Series III a few times a month. More within my budget too.
