Default You look better than you think. Outside looking in for a change

The other day I had to pick up my bronco from the mechanic. So I drove it home and my lady drove the XK8.

If you're like me, you don't get to see many X100s on the road. The truth is that I forgot how good these cars look from the outside, wow - and she wasn't even washed or waxed!

I have to admit that I lost track of how she looks whole cruising, I'm always behind the wheel.

Like I said, this is a light but positive post. It's kind of a weird feeling to find yourself staring at your own car and thinking wow that's really cool (meaning the design elements).

I guess you'd have to be in another car to experience this with yours, but it struck me hard enough to want to share it.

John

Yeah, I got to follow mine once while someone else drove it. It looks great in the garage, but amazing on the road.

I have yet to see another X100 coupe driving around. I'll have to arrange such a scenario, if I can talk my wife into driving the Jag. So far she hasn't driven it.

150FHC, just tell her how good she'll look driving it! Oh yeah tell her you'll turn off the Sport mode (you might call it putting it in the granny driving mode) for her.

Sounds like I'm trying to be funny, truth is it made my lady less intimidated. She says she likes it better.

Just be careful she might like driving it way too much mate. You may never get it back

No reason she shouldn't want to drive it except that it's new to her and she doesn't do change easily. She drives the Land Rover but won't drive the pickup. That I get because it's a crew can pig but the Jag is the sweetest car I've ever driven. Nothing to fear except as you say she might like it too much!

Virtually every car I've owned, I had someone drive it once or twice to do just what you refer to. I want to see and hear it as well. Used to be a large plate glass window down town that I would drive by very slowly for the same reason! Cars sound very different as they pass you vs being inside.

If you still get excited when you get in your car, you have the right car!

I was driving around town yesterday and saw this gorgeous car coming over a hill toward me, then I realized it was an XK8 or R. Then I thought to myself, dang that's a pretty car - looks just like mine !

Had same experience once which is why I am going to get another one...

had to give the convertible to wife because I needed her car to haul something. She met me in town and drove off with the top down, hair flowing, big sunglasses. Both she and the car looked amazing, each complimented the other perfectly.

Yeah I am gonna get another one (car, not wife!)

In the UK there appears to be many more XK8/R's but they are still very special. I have owned many cars through the years but none have the reaction that my XKR gets. All the time I get people saying what a lovely car it is. My record, so far, is four people in one day approaching me and complimenting the car. Nice feeling isnt it?

The advice I give all potential owners is before they buy the car to visit the dentist. They will be walking and driving around with a big grin on their faces so their teeth will always be on display.

Franks XKR Story.

I had the good fortune to come upon an XK 8 coupe and stay with it awhile on the freeway, eventually pulling along side. Both of us gave the thumbs up!

Had the same kind of experience a few days ago. I was a couple of blocks from home and saw a beautiful Carnival Red XKR waiting to make a left turn as I was approaching. I thought, "what a beautiful car!" Then I realized it was my son driving my car (his XJ8 is in the shop and I had lent him my XKR to get to work). I was driving my X150 at the time. I still love looking at it even after 160,000 miles.

I bought my XK8 from a dentist (and long-time Jaguar enthusiast). Dentists tend to be very fastidious, and this seems to extend to how they maintain their cars.

Outside looking in?

I get to do this all the time while following my wife in the Accord while she drives it to our mechanic for yet another repair! Looks great, though!

Couple of weeks ago, I had just left Ft Myers Florida in my Corvette Grand Sport heading back up to New England.
Spotted this really sleek dark blue car that had just pulled onto Interstate 75 North. Caught up to it and it was a XK8 coupe, the first one I've seen. Have to admit it looks better than our convertible, but I'm totally happy with the vert.

I let my wife drive my XKR once. Just once. The car is much wider than she realized so she drove with the right wheels nearly into the gutter. Almost took out two mailboxes. I was a nervous wreck.

But I would love to see my Jag in motion. Perhaps I can persuade a trusted friend to drive it while I look on from another car.

I feel the same way about someone else driving my Jag. I have to tell the wife to please don't touch the (air) vents - don't ask. Also, the climate control which works perfectly and I always keep at a set temp on 'Auto", is always changed and the temp cranked to max cool or max heat. But the car looks great rolling !
