Default Will this E-Type be saved?

Until I read this post, I totally forgot that at one point, the XKE was the fastest car in the world. As Cameron points out, this era likely marked the last time that the most beautiful car was also the fastest. At 60k, this isn't cheap, especially in this condition... Do you think it'll actually be saved? Or is its destiny to be parted out? Check out the full story and more photos here.

Cars worse than that have been saved ! Certainly the values of E-types are such here in the UK and Europe that restoration costs are bearable in relation to the final value of the car, but the missing XK engine would be a serious problem to attaining a good final value. The bonnets are available new, no problem, and almost all the body-shell panels too. It would be a fairly daunting DIY restoration unless one had done a few cars before and had all the equipment and a large garage.

Looks to me like the motor is still in the car with the head off and sitting on the right side of the engine bay, backwards. (back to front). Certainly restorable in Britain. (right hand drive).

You're right, and I must need new specs ! If so then restoration will provide a car with significant value, but whether this would cover the restoration costs is another matter. One only knows what the final cost is when the vehicle is finally finished ! Of course if the owner does a mostly DIY restoration the costs are lower.

Yeah, restoration costs can be such a wild card...
