I guess I have to call BS on that. It is that or someone has their own powdercoat shop and the $350 is only for the cost of the materials. I also see 2 flaws in that statement too. The bigger one is that in order for the powdercoat system to work, you have to bake the components at about 400F. You can't just put the whole car into the oven and bake it (something about a gas tank getting really hot.....BOOM!!!!). So, that would mean that the car would have to be completely dismantled to do something like the A-pillars (remove the whole interior, wiring harnesses, windshield, etc). The second thing is that the noses of these cars are made out of high strength plastics. You get them warm and they will start twisting and warping like you wouldn't believe. Again, the powdercoat paints need to be baked. So, unless you put that inside of a mold to maintain its shape, it wasn't subjected to the heat.

Now, this all assumes that they didn't try something that is in the experimental stage that may use something like UV light to "bake" the paint. But, baking is what takes the individual powder ***** and melts them together to make the hard shell.

I would venture to guess that someone paid $350 to have the rim powdercoated. That is about the going rate for a job like that.

I was going to have my rocker cover powder coated, but then I read all these horror stories about leaking oil due to heat warping the metal. Not Jags, but it's still put doubt in my mind...
