GTA Car Kit Car Play
Anyone have any experience with this module in their F-Pace? Their customer service/tech support is email only and it takes quite a while to receive responses. Installed it today and the screen keeps going black and I can’t even get the factory radio to come back up without waiting for the vehicle to time out after turning it off.
Been going back and forth via email with tech support and they have helped a lot. I think we have it squared away. I really hope this works well without being buggy. My girlfriend loves her F-Pace but hates that it does not have CarPlay and this looks like it’s going to work. Fingers crossed! Install is pretty basic if you are even slightly mechanically inclined. Their install video on YT is pretty detailed. They recommend unbolting the seat and just tilting it back. I actually pushed it into the back to give myself more work room. Worked well.

I miss having CarPlay in my ‘17 too but was a little (a lot) leery of doing a crap Chinese interface. What exactly did they suggest to make yours work correctly?
I’m sure it doesn’t help that the JLR system is goofy as hell. I never know if the first start of the day will connect to BT or ignore it completely.

Connect the iPhone to the Jaguar Bluetooth.
Select Bluetooth as the source on the factory radio.
Connect the iPhone to the GTA module via Wi-Fi.
Hold down the “Home” button on the radio to toggle between factory radio and the GTA CarPlay module.
It seems to be working ok. I haven’t used it much besides testing after install. I’m not sure what all steps have to be done each time and which steps are automatic. We will see.

Did you have to remove the door sills to get the carpet loose? I had everything set and couldnt get the carpet pulled back to get to the head unit. I got afraid of messing up the sill and bolted the seet back to save the project for later
The door sill just pops out. Just slide your fingers underneath and pull. There are four clips and two of mine broke, which happens sometimes. I just ordered a 10pk. from Amazon. (Rexka 10pcs front sill plate retainer clip for Jaguar F-Pace - $13.99)
Here is what I did:
- Tilted seat back forward.
- Slid seat rearward and removed 2 seat bolts in the front.
- Slid seat forward and removed 2 seat bolts in the back.
I did it in this order to keep the seat sliders under the seat and not protruding out the front (due to next steps, my choice - not required). You can just rock the seat back to complete the install like their video shows. If you do not feel comfortable with this procedure, complete the install per their instructions in the video.
- Rocked the seat back and disconnected the three connectors on the bottom of the seat. Popped out clip holding harness to bottom of seat.
- Laid rear seat down flat.
- Lifted seat, rocked it back and laid it into the back. (This is why I wanted the seat rails under the seat. If they are forward, they will touch the headliner)
If you do this, be very careful and lift the seat by the seat cushion and not the plastic tray that is under the seat. The tray is there to cover the wires under the seat and will break if you lift the seat using it. Get some help if you feel you need it.
- Popped out the two carpet retainers.
- Removed the door sill.
- Folded back both the front and rear parts of the carpet to completely expose the plastic tray that covers the radio unit and amplifier. You will have to pull the carpet out from under the plastic trim pieces (center console, pillar, etc).
I used some bungee cords through some of the carpet holes to hold the carpet back and out of my way.
- Popped out all 4 retainers holding the plastic tray and removed the tray.
- Completed the install like their video shows. I did some maneuvering of the wires to make it fit the way I liked it. I wished the video wire was longer so I could get the module to sit next to the amplifier instead of on top of it. I’m a little worried about the heat coming from the amplifier. We shall see.
- I tucked the antenna up into the bottom section of the center console. I didn’t worry about using the double stick tape on it.
- I connected a 10’ USB cable to the USB cable/port coming from the module and ran it under the carpet, under the dash, and popped it out the top of the dash at the windshield at the bottom of the A-pillar trim so the phone can be charged while in the windshield mounted phone cradle.
- Sit in the passenger seat and make all wireless connections and test everything to make sure everything works before reassembly.
- Reassembled reverse of disassembly.
Wireless connections:
- Pair iPhone to factory radio Bluetooth.
- Pair iPhone to GTA module. This is done through setup in the GTA module menu. You will need to hold down the home button on the factory radio for a few seconds to toggle to the GTA module.
- Connect iPhone to GTA module via WiFi.
- Select Bluetooth as source on factory radio while in factory radio mode.
- Toggle to CarPlay (GTA module) and start testing phone, music (iTunes, SiriusXM, etc.), maps (Waze, Google, etc.)
I think I listed these in the correct order. Basically you have to have the phone paired to radio via Bluetooth, the radio in Bluetooth mode, the phone connected to the module via WiFi. Their video says the source has to be Auxiliary, but that does not work. They told me you can do it that way, but you have to set it up that way in the menu. I’m guessing maybe that’s an option if the Bluetooth source becomes an issue. I don’t know, just guessing.
While not connected to the radio, you can go into the iPhone settings, general, CarPlay, customize, and then adjust what apps show on the radio screen and in what order.
Enjoy!

Thank you so much! I did not get the sill panel off fr enough to see the clips were replaceable. I will order these and try again. I really appreciate the guidance!

Thanks so much for the writeup. I've been wanting to tackle this soon as well. I'm assuming it's the same module as available on this Amazon link, correct?
Any specific reason you decided to go with the GTA version? I was going to try the Amazon one just due to the free return option, if for some reason it doesn't work out.

No problem.

So far, so good. The only issue we have experienced so far is having Bluetooth active on multiple phones at the same time. Once I tuned the Bluetooth off on my phone, the system connected to hers and everything was back to normal. I guess having two Bluetooth sources available at once confused it a little.
I installed the one I asked about earlier in the thread, and everything's working fine. I'm also having to bounce between Bluetooth and AUX to get everything working, as it seems Waze only wants to go through the AUX channel. Also for NaesJag, the carpet was quite difficult to pull out, but eventually enough gave way for me to get in there. I used a panel removal tool to help me push it down first, and that seemed to help a bit. Nonetheless, it was nowhere quite as easy as in the GTA vid. I'm sure that F-Pace had the procedure done before, because that carpet came out waaaaaaaay too easily.

Strange. We use Waze and haven’t had issues using the Bluetooth. Other that that, glad to hear everything else is working good.
You can do this, just take your time and remember that everything you take apart simply goes back together in reverse. If you have issues, you can contact their tech support via email and they will get back to you. It’s not real fast but they are very helpful.

Thank you for sharing such details!! I watched their youtube video as well but I got confused since it said that the factory audio source needs to be set to AUX to get the sound to work. So it seems that you can set the audio source to bluetooth to work? I am curious to know how the sound is transmitted from your phone to the car stereo system when connected to this CarPlay module. Is it transmitted digitally or by analog (AUX)? Do you feel any sound quality issues when you play music via your carplay?

We use the Bluetooth settings so it works without any wires. Sound quality is pretty good. It can be a bit quirky sometimes, but overall it works pretty well.
I have it in my 2017 FType. Also uses Bluetooth / they used to have it connect via the audio Aux but now they use Bluetooth. Works great, no issues with sound quality or glitches. It's really good. And strangely phone calls now work better than in the prior car connection.
