Default Jaguar F Pace 2.0 Diesel 180 PS Engine Failure

Dear all,

I bought this car in 2017 in Greece and although all my services were done on time and registered in the official Jaguar garage, the car's engine brokedown and needs to be replaced. i just received an alarm for "restricted performance" and on the way to the garage it just stopped. Has anyone here faced something similar? It is really disapointing to need to replace my car's engine at 77.000 Km, and at the same time the official reply to be " i should pay for a new engine for 21 K Eur". The route cause was that they found some metalic parts in the filter as per attached photos meaning that there is some friction in certain movable parts of the engine and therefore the complete engine will have to be replaced. But none analysed the parts and nobody said which part of the engine is broken or needs to be replaced.

Really disapointed from JLR official reply since i was left completely exposed in this since the warranty expired 1 year prior the failure. It looks like this is a secondary business for them...

Did anyone face the same issues? Any recommendations? I am thinking to go for a replacement with a used engine for minimising the cost, but i worry that i might find myself in a similar situation...

Regards,

nick

Welcome to the forums Nick,

I've moved your post to a new thread of your own because I think you have added difficulty as a result of location (not a lot of choices for Jaguar expertise) and parts availability.

Although I've rebuilt many Jaguar engines in the past, I came to the conclusion some time ago that sourcing a good used unit was by far the lowest cost approach to disaster recovery. You wrote that you purchased the vehicle in Greece but I can see from your IP Address that you are not posting from there. Because you may wish to withold details of your location, I won't post it here.

It would be useful to know exactly what has failed for two reasons:
1. to evaluate what would be required for rebuild
2. to assess how this compares with sourcing a used engine

The difficulty is that once you give the vehicle to a repair shop for assessment and dismantling is begun, you are almost locked inot seeing it through to a conclusion with that shop. What are your mechanical skills and facilities - for example would you be able to remove the oil sump (pan)?

Graham
