Default “ABS FAULT” Has anyone received this warning light??

I can’t believe I’m the only one receiving these warning lights, all pointing to a brake problem. My ABS does NOT work. Several other warning messages all relating to BRAKE problem.

Can anyone shed some light on this situation???

Got any codes? Difficult to diagnose with the information you've provided.

I have had an ABS fault warning in two other cars over the years and both times it was a wheel speed sensor/connector that was bad.

Hello SVALBARD...seems to be a ABS sensor failure... Check for wiring dammage at wheels sensors.

While damage to wheel sensors is common (road debris/corroded connectors) it is not always the case.

I know that other older XKs could suffer from that type of ABS fault...so does my other sports car with a Kelsey Hayes ABS controller (which apparently is a result of bad solder joints in the control unit). On our friends' XK8 cleaning and de-oxidizing the plugs to the engine bay controller made the issue go away for a while, but the fault eventually came back.

As @scm mentioned, the first step is always to determine what ABS codes are being set...go from there.

What code reader do I need? The only current problem is the parking brake failure but then I found the battery was dying so that may be the cause of that problem. I only bought the car yesterday (21/11/24) and its sitting waiting for its new battery which it is getting tomorrow.
I have only been on this forum for a couple of hours and have already learned a lot. I don't yet have the Users Handbook but have ordered one from an eBay seller.

Will an auto parts store in the UK read codes for free, as many USA stores do?

If you are inclined to buy one, there are several Topics here discussing code readers, and the mid to higher level ones will usually read ABS codes. Look at the specs.

PS: Don't forget to charge the new battery BEFORE you install it.

Are you sure the battery is dying and doesn't just want a good charge - they can discharge over time if left sitting for any length of time.

Not that I know of although the one I use Halfords probably will they have in store technicians that install things.
The battery will come fully charged as it is being installed at my place by one of their techs.

These days, all shops should have an ABS-fault capable reader.
Many shops just read codes and replace ALL the parts associated with that code.
It is the world we live in, today.

But as many, many topics here have noted, an 'off the shelf' battery often comes less than 100% charged. Will they put it on a maintainer for 8 - 12 hours for you before putting it into the car? In any case, it is wise to drive the F for 45 - 60 minutes continuously after you get a new battery.
Main dealers will include labor time to reset the BMS (?) (battery monitoring system/controller)....although several DIYers here have not suffered consequences after <<just>> throwing a battery in.

An ABS fault could be many things, most common is wheel speed sensor. Sometimes contaminants (rust) can get into the space between the tone ring and the sensor on the hub bearing, other times it could be the ABS control module itself.
Need to get the codes read.

Yeah The battery was dying and needed to be replaced. I drove the car for a couple of hours before parking it up and it wouldn't crank. It works OK now the only problem i have now is that with the battery having been disconnected the Touch screen display needs the code, which naturally I don't have. I suspect it means a trip to a main dealer, but since I intend to get her properly serviced anyway that is not a problem.

What year is your car? I've never heard of the touchscreen needing a code after a battery disconnect.

He has posted in the wrong sub-forum, according to his profile he has a 2005 S Type (diesel).
