Default 15mm spacers for F type with gyro wheels

Hi guys
Tommy again.

I just sucessfully installed the VAP springs and asked the mechanic to install the spacers all around.
I have already known that 2~3 mm of process is necessray but here the mechanic said that it is not recommended to cut the bolt from the car.
and also they don't have the equipment to cut the wheel pocket.

what do you guys think about cutting the bolt from the car to install the spacers?
is it worthy? or not recommanded.?

will it harm the balance of the car?

Lots of threads and posts about this, bottom line zero problems with cutting 2 or 3 mm off each wheel lug/bolt as the thread doesn't even start until around 4 mm in from the end.
Disclaimer - while I have 15 mm spacers all round I also have Blade wheels so no cutting required!

I already read lots of threads regarding the spacers,
I am just confused whether to proceed even to cut the bolts.
The mechanic is shaking my decision.

I don't understand what the mechanic is worried about.
The 2 or 3 mm to be cut off, if not cut off, would merely stick out from the surface of the spacer and interfere with the gaps on the back of the wheel, so cutting 2 or 3 mm off simply removes this "sticky out" bit.
Even if you had the 2 or 3 mm cut off then went back to no spacers it would not and could not possibly cause any problem as the stock length of the lugs/bolts is already more than is needed.
Just explain to the mechanic that a lot of F-Type owners have had this done and none of them have ever had a problem.

The nuts that come with the spacers are usually 'open' ended so the spare threaded part of the hub studs will be sticking out of the nut after the spacer nuts are tightened. Get the mechanic to cut them flush with the spacer nuts after the spacers are installed. At this point the part you are cutting off is clearly not required and this also means that if you ever need to remove the spacer winding the nut off of the stud will tidy up the thread on its way. There should be zero problems with cutting these.

Just to clarify, you do not want to cut the bolts flush to the spacer bolt nuts, you would be cutting half of your bolt off.... All you need to cut off is just the tip of the bolt that doesn't have threads 2-3mm...

Edit: Here is a bad pic of a spacer that you can see the end of the bolt that needs to be cut...

Fair enough, that is enough to make them fit. I don't see a problem with cutting them flush no need if it makes you nervous.

+1 to Oz’s response. The Gyrodynes do need the 3mm ground from the end of the studs. None of the thread will be lost, and when you get custom wheels made that are the right offset, there will be no issue when eliminating the spacers. The mechanic is simply not thinking clearly about how a threaded stud works.
